Our prediction for this World Cup 2026 match:
Buoyed by a come-from-behind 3-1 win over Faroe Islands, Austria will be looking to give fans yet another reason for celebration when they take on Denmark in the Group F derby. Austria will be without Marko Arnautovic in Wednesday’s qualifier, and, in his absence, a man to watch in the home team will be Stuttgart attacker Sasa Kalajdzic, who has been scoring goals for fun in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
The bad news for the hosts is that Hoffenheim midfielder Florian Grillitsch will have to serve his ban against Denmark. The Danes, on the other hand, aim to keep their 100% record in Group F intact. All Kjaer, Braithwaite, and Eriksen return to the starting XI after the trio was rested in the 8-0 crushing of Moldova, and given Denmark’s attacking potential, we believe that both teams are going to find the net in the Ernst Happel Stadion showdown.
Highlighted Player (David Alaba):
David Alaba started his youth career at SV Aspern and in 2002 he joined Austria Wien. Bayern Munich chiefs decided to sign him and he was promoted to the reserve team for the 2009/2010 campaign. He made 33 appearances for Bayern Munich II and he has been playing for the first team since 2010. At the age of 17 Alaba made his Champions League debut on 9 March, 2010 against Fiorentina.
The Austrian international is a full back, but he is capable of playing as a left midfielder as well. He represented Austria at the 2016 European Championship finals in France, but das Team failed to impress at the showpiece tournament, suffering elimination in the group stages. David Alaba won his fifth Bundesliga title with Bayern in the 2015/2016 season and he clinched the Champions League trophy with FCB in 2013.
Speaking of his individual honours, he was named Austrian Footballer of the Year in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. Alaba was born in Wien on 24 June, 1992.
Highlighted Team (Denmark):
The Denmark national team participated at the World Cup finals on four occasions and they recorded their best result at the 1998 tournament. The Danes made it to the quarter-finals of the 1998 World Cup in France, but Brazil proved to be a big catch for the Nordic side. De Rod-Hvide did remarkably well to win the 1992 European Championship, but they were more than fortunate to qualify for the Euro 1992 finals.
Denmark finished their qualifying campaign in second place in the group, but thanks to Yugoslavia’s exclusion from the competition, the team booked their place at the Euro 1992 finals. Denmark impressed at the tournament in Sweden, with the team outplaying Germany in the title game (2-0).
Brothers Michael and Bryan Laudrup and goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel are regarded as Denmark’s most notable players. It has to be noted that Morten Olsen was in charge of the Danish national team from 2000 to 2015. The Danes play their home games at Telia Parken and the capacity of the venue is 38,065 (all-seater).
