Serbia will be aiming to get level on points with Portugal when they take on Luxembourg at Stadion Rajko Mitic on Saturday. The Serbs kicked off their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign in style, with the team sharing the spoils with Portugal, while beating both Ireland and Azerbaijan. Dragan Stojkovic is doing a great job with the Serbian national team, and given the Eagles’ display in a 4-0 win over Qatar, home win should be considered.
Even Dusan Vlahovic impressed in Wednesday’s friendly, Aleksandar Mitrovic is widely expected to lead the line for the hosts. Luxembourg aim to build on a hard-fought 2-1 win over Azerbaijan, but seeing that Luc Holtz’s troops are not regarded as good travelers, we are tempted to put our money on the Serbs. It has to be noted that Luxembourg defender Maxime Chanot returns to contention after serving his one-game ban in the triumph over Azerbaijan.
Highlighted Player (Nemanja Matic):
Nemanja Matic is a Serbian footballer who plays for Premier League side Chelsea. The 194-cm-tall midfielder was born on 1 August, 1988 and he began his football career (youth) at Radnicki Obrenovac.
In 2005 he signed for Kolubara and after impressing with Kosice in the 2008/2009 campaign, Chelsea owners decided to sign him. Nemanja spent the 2010/2011 season on loan at Vitesse and at the end of the season he signed a deal with Portuguese giants Benfica, with David Luiz heading in the other direction.
Matic was in the form of his life in the 2013/2014 Primeira Liga campaign and he helped the Eagles clinch the domestic trophy. He rejoined Chelsea in 2014 for a fee of €25M and he helped the Blues win the Premier League title in the 2014/2015 season. Nemanja Matic has also developed into a key member of the Serbian national team that have been largely struggling of late.

Luxembourg national football team is controlled by Luxembourg Football Federation and they play their home games at Stade Josy Barthel. Les Lions Rouges have never qualified for the finals of a major tournament, but they often make life difficult for European teams in the qualifiers.
Luxembourg defeated Macedonia in the Euro 2016 qualifiers, but a victory over Czech Republic in the 1996 European Championship qualifying match is considered the team’s biggest success. Les Lions Rouges play their home matches in red shirts and red shorts, while they wear white jerseys and white shorts when playing on the travels.
Jeff Strasser is both the most famous and the most capped Luxembourg player and it has to be noted that the former Bundesliga player made 98 appearances for the national team. Luxembourg recorded their biggest win against Afghanistan (6-0), in the match that was played in London in 1948. Speaking of their biggest defeat, Luxembourg were outclassed by England 9-0 on two occasions (1960, 1982).
