Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Tuesday’s postponed fixture at Mazuma Stadium pits together Morecambe and Cambridge United, the two bottom-table sides. Morecambe have been slipping down the standings week by week, with the team losing four of their last five league fixtures. The Shrimps are eager to give fans something to cheer about, but this game will be anything but a walk in the park for the hosts. Jonathan Obika is injured for the hosts, but head coach Stephen Robinson has no other selection worries ahead of the midweek clash.
The U’s, on the other hand, aim to build on a hard-fought 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon. Cambridge United are eager to move closer to the playoffs berth, and they should take advantage of Morecambe’s current form. Adam May is banned for the visitors, while Leon Davies is a major doubt, and he will be assessed ahead of the kick-off.
Highlighted Player (A-Jay Leitch-Smith):
Born in Crewe, England on March 6, 1990, A-Jay Leitch-Smith is a professional footballer who plays for Morecambe as a forward. Leitch-Smith is a product of the Crewe Alexandra football academy, and it has to be noted that he made 103 appearances for the club’s first team.
After spending several seasons on loan at Halifax Town, Newcastle Town, IBV, and Curzon Ashton, the English footballer joined Yeovil Town on a permanent basis in the 2014/2015 season. A-Jay Leitch-smith played for the likes of Port Vale, Shrewsbury Town, and Dundee (loan) as well before moving to his current club Morecambe.
Leitch-Smith is a very intelligent and creative attacker with good technical abilities. His preferred foot is centre-forward, but he is used as both second striker and right winger as well. The English footballer, who wears the number 28 jersey at Morecambe, has a contract with the Shrimps until June 30, 2021.
Highlighted Team (Cambridge United):
Cambridge United are an English football club that compete in League Two. The U’s play their home games at Abbey Stadium, the venue which was built back in 1923. Owned by Grosvenor Estates, Cambridge United’s home ground can hold up to 8,127 spectators.
The U’s wear amber and black jerseys and black shorts when playing in front of home fans, while white and blue are the dominant colours of their away kit. Cambridge United won the FA Trophy in 2014, with the team making it to the FA Cup quarter-finals two times (1989/90, 1990/91). In the 1968-69 season, the U’s clinched the Southern League Cup title.
Cambridge United recorded their biggest league win in March 2007 as they outclassed Weymouth 7-0, and they repeated the success against Forest Green (2009) and Morecambe (2016). Peterborough United are regarded as the club’s main rivals, but they maintain rivalries with Northampton Town, Colchester United, Luton Town, Stevenage, and Histon as well.
