Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Saturday’s football game at Abbey Stadium pits together Cambridge United and Sunderland, the two teams who sit in the opposite halve of the table. The U’s failed to win the previous three league fixtures, and given their shaky defence, home win should not be considered. You should know that Cambridge United conceded nine goals in total in the previous three league fixtures. The Black Cats, on the other hand, aim to keep their automatic promotion hopes alive.
Sunderland dropped two points in a 1-1 draw with ten-man Shrewsbury, but they are surely capable of beating Cambridge, who have been struggling in the League One in November. Fit-again midfielder Aiden McGeady is pushing for a start, while Ross Stewart should continue to lead the line for the visiting side. In their last meeting in a competitive match the two teams played out a thrilling 3-3 draw, but away win should be considered this time out.
Highlighted Player (Liam O’Neil):
Born in Cambridge, England on July 31, 1993, Liam O’Neil is an English footballer who plays as both defender as midfielder for Cambridge United in the League Two. O’Neil is a product of the Cambridge United football school, but he played for Histon during his youth career as well.
In the summer of 2012 he joined WBA youth academy, and it has to be noted that he made three appearances for the Baggies at senior level in all competitions. Liam O’Neil played for the likes of VPS and Scunthorpe United on loan as well before joining Chesterfield in 2015.
After scoring two goals in 45 appearances for the club in the league, O’Neil moved to Cambridge United in the winter of 2017. As his mother comes from Wales, O’Neil is open to play for the Wales national team, but he has yet to earn a cap with the Dragons.
Highlighted Team (Sunderland):
Sunderland are a professional football club that have been playing their home games at the Stadium of Light since 1997. The capacity of the stadium is 49,000, but before expansion the original ground capacity was 42,000. Red and White shirts are Sunderland’s trademark and the club’s fiercest rivals are Newcastle United. The two local rivals have been contesting in the Tyne-Wear derby since 1898 and there have always been fireworks in what is one of the greatest derbies in English football. Sunderland were on the verge of dropping to the Championship in the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign, but experienced tactician Sam Allardyce eventually helped the team avoid relegation.
The Black Cats have won six First Division trophies (now the Premier League), with the team lifting two FA Cup titles. Sunderland won their first FA Cup trophy in 1937, with the team beating Preston North End 3-1 in the title game. The club was founded in 1879 as Sunderland and District Teachers A.F.C.
