Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
Sparta Rotterdam play host to Willem II at their Sparta Stadion Het Kasteel in the Eredivisie round 22 in what is expected to be an interesting Eredivisie game. The Rotterdammers suffered a 4-0 loss to Feyenoord in the local derby, and, no doubt, they are eager to make amends for the massive defeat. Midfielder Younes Namli, who limped off with injury in the Rotterdam derby, is unlikely to feature in Sunday’s clash, while goalkeeper Benjamin van Leer is a major doubt.
The Tricolores, on the other hand, desperately needed a win against RKC Waalwijk, and they managed to get one, with the team putting an end to their ten-game losing run. Willem II aim to give fans yet another reason for celebration, but beating Sparta on the road is easier said than done. Even though there should be no absentees in the away team, we are tempted to put our money on draw.
Highlighted Player (Bryan Smeets):
Bryan Smeets is a product of MVV Maastricht football academy who plays for Sparta Rotterdam in the Dutch Eredivisie. Smeets scored 23 goals in 144 league appearances for MVV before joining De Graafschap in 2015.
After his spell with the Superboeren, the midfielder moved to Cambuur in the 2017/18 season. The following season he joined Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv where he scored 12 goals in 37 appearances in the elite division. Bryan Smeets then decided to return to Netherlands as he joined Sparta Rotterdam in the 2019/20 season. He scored his first goal with De Kasteelheren in a 4-0 win over RKS Waalwijk on September 21, 2019.
His main position is attacking midfielder, but he is used as both central midfielder and right winger as well. Bryan Smeets has a contract with Sparta Rotterdam which should expire on June 30, 2021. He is a two-footed player.
Highlighted Team (Willem II):
Based in Tilburg, Netherlands, Willem II is a professional football club that competes in the Eredivisie. The Tricolores were founded back in August 1896 under the name of Tilburgia, but the club’s first big success came in the 1915/16 season when they won the national championship.
Willem II repeated the success in the 1951/52 Eredivisie campaign, with the team winning their third domestic trophy three years later. When it comes to KNVB Cup, the Tricolores have won it on two occasions (1943/44, 1962/63). Willem II are well known for their white shirts with red and blue strips, while their away kit is mainly mint with dark navy accents.
The Tricolores play home matches at Koning Willem II Stadion, the venue with the capacity of 14,700 spectators. Willem II have fierce rivals in Nac Breda, as the cities of Breda and Tilburg are only 20 kilometers apart. Former Barcelona and Arsenal star Marc Overmars is one of the most notable footballers who played for the club.
