Our prediction for this Championship match:
Peterborough and Reading face each other at Weston Homes Stadium in a highly-anticipated Championship game. The Posh aim to make amends for back-to-back losses to Cardiff City and Preston, and they are likely to fight tooth and nail in the relegation six-pointer. Idris Kanu is back from international duty, while both Mark Beevers and Dan Butler are sidelined with injuries for the home team.
The Royals, on the other hand, have been slipping down the standings week by week. Reading are on a seven-game losing run in the Championship, and given their shaky defence, we believe that home win should be considered. Junior Hoilett is banned for the visiting side, while all Ovie Ejaria, Alen Halilovic, Femi Azeez, Dejan Tetek, Scott Dann, and Felipe Araruna are out of contention with injuries for the visiting team. In their last meeting at the venue Peterborough crushed Reading 6-0.
Highlighted Player (David Cornell):
Born in Waunarlwydd, Wales on March 28, 1991, David Cornell is a goalkeeper who plays for Northampton Town in the League Two. The 180-cm tall shot-stopper is a product of the Swansea City football school, but he did not make any appearances for the Swans at senior level.
Cornell played for the likes of Port Talbot Town, Hereford United, St. Mirren, and Portsmouth on loan before signing a permanent contract with Oldham Athletic in the 2015/2016 season. In the summer of 2016, he joined Northampton Town on a two-year deal.
Speaking of his international career, David Cornell has three caps with the Wales U21 team, but he has yet to earn a call-up for the senior team. The Northampton Town goalkeeper wears the number 1 jersey, and his preferred foot is right. He has a contract with the Cobblers until June 30, 2020.
Highlighted Team (Reading):
Reading FC is a professional football club that play in the Championship. The club was formed in 1871 and Madejski Stadium has been the home of Reading since 1998. The Royals used to play their home games at Elm Park in the past (1896 - 1998). Reading made it to the FA Cup semi-finals on two occasions (1927, 2015), but they have yet to win the prestigious trophy.
The likes of Robin Friday, Trevor Senior, Steve Death, Shaka Hislop, Phil Parkinson, Alf Messer, Jimmy Quinn, Michael Gilkes, Ronnie Blackman, Pavel Pogrebnyak and Martin Hicks are some of their more notable footballers. Aldershot Town were considered Reading’s fiercest rivals, but the Shots went out of business in 1992.
Seeing that Aldershot rejoined the league in 2008 it remains to be seen if the rivalry is going to be re-established in near future. Swindon Town and Oxford United are considered Reading’s big rivals as well.
