Our prediction for this Segunda Division match:
Friday’s football game at Estadio La Romareda pits together Zaragoza and Almeria, the two teams with entirely different ambitions in the 2021/2022 La Liga campaign. Zaragoza aim to build on back-to-back wins over Las Palmas and Sporting Gijon, and they are on the right track to secure the Segunda Division survival. The bad news for the hosts is that attacker Alvaro Gimenez failed to recover in time to face Almeria.
The visitors, on the other hand, head into the match following four consecutive league wins. Almeria have been impressive in La Liga 2 ever since Umar Sadiq returned from international duty, and the Nigerian striker is likely to prove a handful for the opposition back-line. Daniel Carrico has joined Lucas Robertsone and Juanjo Nieto in the recovery room. There are no other selection worries in the away team. Anyhow, Almeria are more of a team than Zaragoza, and we predict that the promotion-chasing visitors will prove their worth on the field.
Highlighted Player (Alvaro Gimenez):
Alvaro Gimenez is a product of Elche football school who plays for fellow La Liga side Cadiz as a forward. Alvaro played for several Spanish clubs in the past, including Elche, Valencia B, Torrellano, Mallorca, Alcorcon, Almeria, before joining Birmingham City in the 2019/20 season.
After scoring only three goals in 24 appearances for the Blues in the Championship, Alvaro Gimenez returned to Spain at the end of the season, signing a deal with La Liga newcomers Cadiz. The Spanish attacker made his debut with the “Yellow Submarine” on October 4, 2020 in a 1-1 draw with Granada. His main position is centre-forward, but he is used as both left and right winger as well.
Gimenez’s preferred foot is left, and his contract with Cadiz should expire on June 30, 2023. The Cadiz attacker has three caps with the Spain U17 team, but he has yet to earn a call-up for the senior team.
Highlighted Team (Almeria):
UD Almeria is a Spanish club based in the autonomous community of Andalusia. Los Rojiblancos are one of the newer additions to the Spanish football system, with the club being founded on July 26, 1989.
Almeria suffered relegation to Segunda Division in the 2014/15 season, and they have been competing in the Spanish second tier ever since. Los Rojiblancos are well known for their white shirts with red stripes, while blue is the dominant colour of their away jersey. Sofiane Feghouli, Felipe Melo, Diego Alves, Veljko Paunovic, Aleix Vidal, Alvaro Negredo, Tomer Hemed, and Mate Bilic are some notable footballers who played for Almeria in the past. Fellow Andalusian clubs Sevilla, Malaga, and Granada are considered the club’s fiercest rivals.
The club’s biggest success in Copa del Rey came in the 2010/11 season when they made it to the semis of the prestigious competition. Nonetheless, Catalan giants Barcelona proved to be a big catch for Almeria in the Spanish Cup semi-finals.
