Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
Stade de la Meinau will host Sunday’s Ligue 1 game between Strasbourg and Lorient, the two teams who sit in the opposite halves of the table. Strasbourg have been underperforming this term, and, as a result, they are sitting in the relegation zone ahead of the visit of Lorient. Le Racing experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 4-2 loss to Ajaccio, but Kevin Gameiro and Co. should not be written off just yet.
Both Ibrahima Sissoko and Nordine Kandil should miss out with injuries, while Karol Fila is a major doubt. Les Merlus, on the other hand, suffered a more than expected dip in form, with the team failing to win the previous four league fixtures. Anyhow, home win should be considered as Strasbourg want this triumph more than Lorient. As for the away side, midfielders Bamo Meite, Samuel Loric, and Laurent Abergel remain in the recovery room.
Highlighted Player (Alexander Djiku):
Alexander Djiku is yet another product of Bastia youth school. Djiku’s main position is centre-back, but he is used as a right-back as well. The 182-cm tall footballer of Senegalese descent made his senior debut with Bastia in December 2013 in a Coupe de la Ligue game against Evian.
After scoring one goal in 45 appearances for les Bleus in the league, Djiku joined Ligue 1 side Caen on July 11, 2017, signing a four-year contract with the Stade Michel D’Ornano outfit. The French defender has a contract with Caen, which should expire on June 30, 2022.
Djiku is well known for his reckless tackles and it is important to note that he was shown 10 yellow cards in 28 appearances for Caen in the 2017/2018 Ligue 1 campaign. Alexander Djiku wears No. 24 jersey when playing for Caen, but he has yet to make his debut with the French national team.
Highlighted Team (Lorient):
Founded back in 1926, Lorient is a French football club that competes in Ligue 1. Les Merlus have yet to win the Ligue 1 trophy, but they did well to go all the way in the Coupe de France in the 2001/02 season. In the title game, Lorient defeated Bastia thanks to Jean-Claude Darcheville’s goal.
The same season les Merlus made it to the Coupe de la Ligue final, but Bordeaux proved to be a big catch (0-3) for them in the title game. Lorient welcome their rivals at Stade du Moustoir, the stadium which can hold up to 16,392 spectators. The colour of the team’s home shirt is orange with a little black on it, while white is the dominant colour of their away jersey. In the 2002/03 season Lorient represented France in European competitions.
Les Merlus, though, failed to impress on their debut in the UEFA Cup as they were beaten by Denizlispor in the round 1 double-header.
