Atmosphere at Rodney Parade will be electrifying when Newport County and Charlton Athletic square off against each other in the EFL Cup round 1. The Exiles are eager to shock the League One side in front of home fans, but their display in a 3-0 loss to Accrington is not giving fans a reason for optimism ahead of Tuesday’s encounter. Talented defender Matt Bondswell is pushing for a start as boss Graham Coughlan should opt to make changes to the team that suffered the heavy defeat in the season opener.
The Red Robins, on the other hand, kicked off the new League One campaign with a 1-0 win over Leyton Orient and it is now wonder the bookies see them as favourites to win the EFL Cup showdown. As Newport experienced all sorts of problems at the back at the weekend, away win should be considered. There are no fresh injury worries in the visiting team ahead of the trip to Wales.

Born in Berlin, Germany, James Clark is an experienced defender who plays for Walsall in the League Two. After spending his youth career at Watford, Clark played for the likes of Oxford United, Oxford City, Salisbury City, Woking, and Bristol Rovers before joining Walsall on a two-year deal.
The defender, who wears the No. 5 jersey at Walsall, has a contract with the Saddlers which should expire in June 2021. His primary position is centre-back, but he is capable of producing fine displays as a right-back as well. His preferred foot is right. James Clark made his League Two debut with Walsall on August 3, 2019 in a 1-0 win over Northampton Town.
He scored his first goal for the Saddlers in the Northampton Town clash as well, helping the team pick up all three points from the PTS Academy Stadium clash. Clark scored his first professional goal during his spell with Bristol Rovers. He found the net in a 2-1 win over Wycombe at the start of the 2018/19 season.

Charlton Athletic are yet another capital club that will compete in the 2019/2020 Championship season. Founded back in 1905, the Red Robins welcome their opponents at the Valley, the stadium which can hold up to 28,111 spectators. Charlton Athletic wear red shirts and white shorts when playing on home soil, whereas black is the dominant colour of their away kit.
Winning of the 1946/1947 FA Cup trophy is considered the club’s biggest success. The Red Robins defeated Burnley 1-0 in the title game, with Chris Duffy scoring the winner for Jimmy Seed’s charges in extra-time.
Fellow capital clubs Crystal Palace and Millwall are regarded as Charlton’s fiercest rivals, whilst Samuel Bartram, who made 579 appearances for the club is one of the most famous footballers who played for the Valley outfit.
