Our prediction for this Serie A match:
After dropping two points in a 2-2 draw with Salernitana, Roma will look to record their first win of the season when they face Verona in “The City of Love”. The good news for the Giallorossi is that key attacker Paulo Dybala is back from suspension, while fellow forward Tammy Abraham remains in the recovery room alongside defender Marash Kumbulla. Experienced striker Andrea Belotti should keep his place in the starting XI after scoring a brace in the season opener.
The Mastini, on the other hand, aim to build on a hard-fought 1-0 win over Empoli, but seeing that Dybala returns for the Romans, we are tempted to put our money on Jose Mourinho’s charges. In their last meeting at Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Roma defeated Verona 3-1 and we predict that history is going to repeat itself. Midfielder Darko Lazovic and forward Thomas Henry should be the only absentees in the home team.
Highlighted Player (Andrea Belotti):
Andrea Belotti began his youth career at Grumellese at the age of 10 and after spending three years at the club, he joined Albinolefe in 2006. As expected, he made his senior debut for the club on 10 March, 2012 and it has to be noted that the Italian striker scored 14 goals in 37 league appearances for the Seriani. Belotti, who was born on 20 December, 1993, joined Palermo on loan in 2013 and in July, 2014 the Sicilian outfit turned his loan move to a co-ownership.
The Italian attacker scored 16 goals for Palermo in 62 league appearances for the club and on 18 August, 2015 he signed a deal with Torino for a fee of €7.5 million.
Three months later he scored first goal in the Italian top flight for Torino and he helped the team record a 2-0 win over Bologna. Andrea Belotti has 18 caps for Italy U21 and he scored nine goals for the team.
Highlighted Team (Verona):
Founded back in 1903, Hellas Verona are a professional football club that compete in the Italian Serie A. The “Mastini” are well known for their yellow and blue jerseys and they welcome their opponents at Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi. Hellas Verona share rivalry with Chievo Verona and the two local rivals face each other in the “Derby della Scala”.
The first derby of Verona was played on November 18, 2001, with Hellas Verona emerging triumphant (3-2). In 1985 the Mastini won their first and only Scudetto, with the team finishing the season in top position in the Serie A standings, four points clear of second-placed Torino. The likes of Preben Elkjaer, Giuseppe Calderisi, Hans-Peter Briegel, Pietro Fanna and Antonio Di Gennaro led Hellas Verona to the historical success.
However, the most famous footballer who played for Verona is Romania international Adrian Mutu, who scored 16 goals in 57 appearances in the league for the Stadio Marc’ Antonio Bentegodi outfit. Verona will compete in the Italian top flight in the 2017/2018 season as they finished the 2016/2017 Serie B campaign in second position in the table.
