Our prediction for this Euro 2024 match:
There will be fireworks when England and Italy go head to head at Wembley Stadium in the Group C derby. The Three Lions are eager to cement top position in the standings, but Tuesday’s clash will be anything but a walk in the park for the home side. All Chilwell, Eze, Mings, and Shaw have been ruled out with injuries, as well as pacey Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka.
The Azzurri, on the other hand, rolled over Malta on Saturday to retain second place in the standings, but Ukraine are still breathing down their neck. All Buongiorno, Chiesa, Immobile and Gnonto miss out with injuries and seeing that England are a real force to be reckoned with at home, we do not believe that Luciano Spalletti’s men are capable of grabbing something from the match. Earlier in the process England defeated Italy 2-1 at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Highlighted Player (Harry Kane):
Widely regarded as one of England’s best strikers at the moment, Harry Kane enjoyed a meteoric rise at Tottenham Hotspur, scoring 21 Premier League goals during the 2014/2015 campaign to be voted PFA Young Player of the Year.
The highly rated striker went on to surpass that achievement the following season as he helped Tottenham Hotspur mount a serious title challenge for the first time in club’s recent history and he made seamless transition to international football. Kane scored four goals in his first ten appearances for England to prove he was here to stay and at the same time established himself as a first choice striker in Roy Hodgson’s squad ahead of the Euro 2016 finals.
Kane is a modern striker, who is extremely dangerous in the opposition box, but it was some outstanding goals from distance as well as link-up play with teammates that earned him an excellent reputation in world football. Kane is expected to lead both Tottenham and England in years to come, that is if he can resist the lure of top European clubs that continue to cast admiring glances his way.
Highlighted Team (Italy):
With four World Cup titles and one European Championship trophy, Italy remain one of world’s most successful teams and they have also finished as runners up at major tournaments on four occasions. The Azzurri have become famous for their result oriented football over the years which is perfectly suited for World Cup and Euro finals, so it is now a surprise when they fail to reach the final stages.
After winning the second and third edition of the World Cup, Italy endured a difficult period until lifting their first European Championship title in 1968, while they also managed to show some improvement at the turn of the century. While winning the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the Azzurri reached Euro finals in 2000 and 2012, and they are still regarded as one of the leading sides in Europe.
There have been too many high-profile players leaving their mark on the national team to count, but the likes of Paolo Maldini, Gianluigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro, Dino Zoff, Roberto Baggio, Luigi Riva and Alessandro Del Piero will go down as some of the most successful ones.
