Our prediction for this Belgium Pro League match:
Sparkles will be flying when Gent and Genk lock horns at Cegeka Arena on Sunday. Genk failed to impress in a 1-0 loss at Standard Liege, but they are surely capable of making life difficult for Gent in front of home fans. Slovakia midfielder Patrik Hrosovsky is pushing for a recall to the starting XI, while there are no fresh injury worries in the home team.
De Buffalo’s, on the other hand, head into the match following back-to-back draws with Anderlecht and St Gilloise. Gent and Genk seem to be evenly matched at the moment and, taking everything into account, we believe that there is a big value in betting on draw. Hein Vanhaezebrouck has a luxury to field the best possible side. In their last encounter in the Belgian elite division the two sides played out a 1-1 draw and we predict that history is going to repeat itself.
Highlighted Player (Sven Kums):
Belgian defender Sven Kums began his youth career at Dilbeek Sport and in 1996 he joined Anderlecht. Despite spending seven years at the club, he did not see any game action with the Belgian giants at senior level. After ending his loan spells with the likes of Lierse and Kortrijk, he signed a permanent deal with de Kerels in 2008.
The 176-cm-tall midfielder, who was born on 26 February, 1988, scored 12 goals in 116 league appearances for Kortrijk and in 2011 he moved to Netherlands, signing a contract with Heerenveen. In 2013 he returned to Belgium, joining Zulte Waregem.
In the summer of 2014 he moved to fellow Belgian outfit Gent and at the end of the 2015/2016 season he signed a loan deal with Udinese. Kums has 12 caps for Belgium U21 and it has to be noted that his father Ludo Kums is working as a coach at Anderlecht. Sven Kums is a centre midfielder, but he plays as both attacking midfielder and defensive midfielder as well.
Highlighted Team (Genk):
Founded in 1988, Genk are considered one of the youngest clubs in Belgium. Luminus Arena is the home stadium of the club, the capacity of the venue is 24 956 and it was built in 1999. Speaking of UEFA matches, the stadium can hold 21 500 spectators.
Genk clinched one Belgian Pro League trophy in the 20th century, with the team winning the 1989/1999 title. They finished the season with 73 points, two points clear of second-placed Club Brugge. Genk won their second domestic trophy in 2002 and the team lifted the Belgian Pro League title in 2011 as well. Speaking of the Belgian Cup, the club clinched their fourth trophy in the competition in 2013.
The club is well known for their brilliant school and you should bear in mind that the likes of Steven Defour, Christian Benteke, Thibaut Courtois, Divock Origi and Kevin De Bruyne are all products of Genk’s football academy.
