Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Wigan play host to Lincoln at their DW Stadium in the League One round 21. The Latics aim to keep their playoffs hopes alive and their performance in a 3-0 win over Fleetwood is surely giving fans a reason for optimism ahead of upcoming festive fixtures. Barring any fresh injury worries, Wigan boss Shaun Maloney is unlikely to make changes to the team that defeated the Cod Army.
The Imps, on the other hand, aim to build on a 3-0 win over Cambridge United. As Lincoln have been impressive in front of goal of late as well, we are tempted to put our money on both teams to score. Lincoln forward Jack Vale is pushing for a recall to the starting XI after scoring as a substitute in the last league match. You should bear in mind that both teams managed to find the net in each of their last five meetings in the English third tier.
Highlighted Player (Teddy Bishop):
Having joined Ipswich as an eight-year-old, Teddy Bishop rose through the ranks at Portman Road to become one of the key players for the Tractor Boys. Bishop’s road to prominence hit a serious roadblock in his first year of the academy scholarship when he endured a serious back injury, but it was in 2014 that he went from strength to strength – proving his worth at the club and emerging as one of the most promising players in the squad.
The total of 36 appearances in his debut season with the first team were more than enough to make an impression on the fans and the club hierarchy which offered him a new long-term deal.
This deep-lying midfielder in characterized by impressive passing accuracy, vision and great reading of the play. Bishop is an asset defensively as well, but he is most comfortable sitting just above the back line, spraying balls around. As a two-footed midfielder, Teddy Bishop is regularly being watched by a number of Premier League biggest clubs.
Highlighted Team (Wigan):
Wigan Athletic are one of the winners of the English FA Cup. The Latics won the prestigious trophy in 2013, with the team upsetting Manchester City in the title game. This is considered the club’s biggest success, but it has to be noted that Wigan played in the UEFA Europa League in the 2013/2014 season.
Wigan have been playing their home games at the DW Stadium since 1999 and they had played at Springfield Park in the past. Chorley are considered Wigan’s fierce rivals, but the two teams last met in 1971, when they competed in the Northern Premier League. The likes of Preston North End, Bury, Oldham Athletic, Burnley and Blackburn Rovers are regarded as Wigan Athletic’s rivals as well.
The club was founded in 1932 and they competed in the English Premier League from 2005 to 2013. The colour of Wigan’s home kit is blue and white (stripes).
