David faces Goliath at BayArena as Bayer Leverkusen and Mainz take on each other in the Bundesliga round 23. The league leaders survived Heidenheim at the weekend, but they need to keep on making progress if they are to win their first Bundesliga trophy. Top scorer Victor Boniface remains on the sidelines alongside Arthur and Exequiel Palacios, but there are no fresh injury worries in Xabi Alonso’s team.
Die Nullfunfer, on the other hand, desperately needed a win against Augsburg and they managed to get one, with the team putting an end to their eleven-game winless run. Mainz, though, have been struggling on the travels this term and given their poor away record (0-6-5), anything but a routine home win would be a big surprise. All Andreas Hanche-Olsen, Tom Krauss, Edimilison Fernandes, Jonathan Burkardt, Maxim Leitsch, Stefan Bell, and Nelson Weiper are out of contention through injuries for the visiting team.
