Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
Ajax play host to Fortuna Sittard at their Johan Cruijff Arena in the Eredivisie round 25. The Amsterdammers did well to beat Utrecht 2-0 in their last league match and they are seen as favourites to beat Fortuna in front of home fans as well. Steven Bergwijn should recover in time to face Sittard, while both Steven Berghuis and Josip Sutalo remain in the recovery room.
Danny Buijs’ troops, on the other hand, aim to build on a thrilling 5-2 win over Excelsior, but given their nine-game losing run in Amsterdam (all competitions), we believe that there is a big value in betting on the hosts, who are eyeing a spot in European competitions. A man to keep an eye on in the visiting team will be forward Kaj Sierhuis, who scored a hat-trick in the last league fixture, while there are no fresh injury worries in Danny Buijs’ team.
Highlighted Player (Steven Berghuis):
Born in Apeldoorn, Netherlands on December 19, 1991, Steven Berghuis is a Dutch winger who plays for Ajax in the Eredivisie. Berghuis played for the likes of Vitesse/AGOVV, WSV Apeldoorn, and Go Ahead Eagles during his youth career before joining Twente in 2009.
The 183-cm-tall footballer continued playing for the Reds at senior level. After ending his loan spell with VVV-Venlo, Steven Berghuis joined AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2012, and three years later signed a deal with the Premier League club Watford. After making no more than nine appearances in the English top flight, Berghuis moved to Feyenoord in August 2016, and he has been playing De club aan de Maas ever since.
His main position is right winger, but he is capable of producing fine displays as both left winger and attacking midfielder as well. He made his Netherlands debut on May 27, 2016 in a 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland.
Highlighted Team (Ajax):
Ajax is a Dutch football club that was founded on 18 March, 1900. Ajax are well known for their youth academy, which regarded as one of the best youth football schools in the world. The likes of Johan Cruijff, Edwin van der Sar, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Kluivert, Rafael van der Vaart and Marco van Basten are all products of Ajax’s football academy. The Amsterdammers share a big rivalry with Feyenoord and there have always been fireworks when the two teams face each other in De Klassieker.
During the seventies Feyenoord and Ajax were the only two teams who were capable of winning the domestic trophies, while PSV have been playing an important role in Dutch football in the 21st century. PSV and Ajax are regarded as big rivals as well and the two teams square off against each other in De Topper. Ajax play their home games at Amsterdam ArenA, the stadium that was opened on 14 August, 1996. The Amsterdammers won their fourth European Cup (Champions League) trophy in 1995, beating Milan in the title game in Vienna.
