Our prediction for this EFL Cup match:
Tuesday’s football game at Adams Park pits together Wycombe and Aston Villa, the two teams who meet for the first time since January 2016. Back then the Villans defeated the Chairboys 2-0 in the FA Cup last 64 and Unai Emery’s troops are seen as hot favourites to win the upcoming EFL Cup clash as well. All Bailey, Maatsen, Duran, and Barkley should be recalled to the starting XI as Emery is expected to mix the squad for the EFL Cup game.
Captain Josh McGinn is unlikely to feature against Wycombe after limping off with injury in a 3-1 win over Wolves. The hosts, on the other hand, aim to build on a 2-1 win over Cambridge United, but seeing that the Villans have strength in depth, there is a big value in betting on the Premier League side. A man to watch in the home team will be fit-again striker Bez Lubala.
Highlighted Player (Diego Carlos):
Diego Carlos Santos Silva is a Brazilian footballer who plays for Nantes as a defender. His main position is centre-back and his preferred foot is right. Diego Carlos began his youth career at America-SP and in 2010 he moved to Desportivo Brasil. After spending the 2012/2013 season on loan at Sao Paulo, the 185-cm-tall defender returned to Desportivo Brasil.
However, he made his first-team debut with Madureira during his spell with the club (2014). In 2014 Diego Carlos signed a contract with Portuguese club Estoril Praia and he scored two goals in 39 appearances for the Primeira Liga club. It has to be noted, though, that he played for Porto B (on loan) in the 2014/2015 season.
Diego Carlos moved to French club Nantes in the summer of 2016 and you should bear in mind that he quickly established himself as a first-team regular with les Canaris. The Brazilian footballer scored two goals in 34 appearances for Nantes in the 2016/2017 Ligue 1 campaign. His contract with the Ligue 1 side expires on June 20, 2021.
Highlighted Team (Wycombe):
Founded back in 1887, Wycombe Wanderers are one of the oldest clubs in the League One. The Chairboys are well known for their sky blue and dark blue shirts, but the colour of their away kit is orange combined with gun-metal gray.
Wycombe Wanderers host their rivals at Adams Park, a small stadium in Sands Industrial Estate which can hold up to 10,137 people. Milton Keynes Dons are seen as the club’s main rivals, with the two teams facing each other in the Buckinghamshire derby. Wycombe Wanderers made it to the FA Cup semis in the 2000/2001, with the team repeating the success in the League Cup six seasons later.
It has to be noted that the Chairboys have two FA Trophy titles (1991, 1993). Legendary midfielder Gareth Ainsworth is considered one of the club’s most famous players. Ainsworth scored 16 goals in 112 league appearances for Wycombe Rovers.
