Our prediction for this Coupe de France match:
A spot in the Coupe de France quarter-finals will be at stake when Lille and Dunkerque go head to head at Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Tuesday evening. Les Dogues are still playing on three fronts and their recent results in Champions League and Ligue 1 are surely giving fans a reason for optimism. Following a thrilling win over Feyenoord (6-1) in the elite competition, Lille came from behind to beat St Etienne 4-1 in their last league match, meaning that they are high on confidence ahead of the visit of Dunkerque.
The Ligue 2 side, on the other hand, set up a meeting with Lille by beating Haguenau in the previous round, but they will have a mountain to climb in the last 16. As les Dogues have turned their Stade Pierre-Mauroy into a real fortress, anything but a routine home win would be a big surprise. The good news for the hosts is that experienced midfielder Benjamin Andre is back from suspension.
Highlighted Player (Benjamin André):
Benjamin Andre is a French footballer, who began his career at Stade Raphaelois youth team. At the age of 16 Andre moved to Ajaccio and he played for the first team from 2008 to 2014. The French player made provided three assists for his teammates in 36 appearances for Rennes in the 2016/2017 Ligue 1 campaign and the club chiefs decided to extend his contract in June, 2017. His deal with the Roazhon Park outfit should expire on June 30, 2022.
Benjamin Andre, who was born in Nice on August 3, 1990, has seven caps for France U21 team. The Rennes footballer plays as a central midfielder, but he is often used as both left and right midfielder.
Highlighted Team (Lille):
Lille have been playing an important role in French football ever since they were founded in 1944. Les Dogues won their first domestic trophy in the 1945/1946 season.
Lille did well to win their second Ligue 1 title in 1954 and 57 years later they lifted their last domestic title. Les Douges finished the 2010/2011 season in top position in the standings, eight points clear of second-placed Olympique Marseille and it has to be noted that Lille attacker Moussa Sow won the Golden Boot (25 goals).
Lille are one of the two teams that managed to win three consecutive Coupe de France trophies (1946, 1947, 1948), but they have yet to clinch the Coupe de la Ligue title. Les Dogues faced PSG in the 2015/2016 Coupe de la Ligue trophy, but les Parisiens proved to be a big catch for Frederic Antonetti’s team in the title game.
Lille play their home matches at Stade Pierre-Mauroy and the capacity of the stadium is 50.186. The venue was opened in August, 2017 and the construction cost €282 million.
