Our prediction for this Copa del Rey match:
Barcelona will be looking to bounce back from the La Liga loss to Valencia when they host Leganes at their Camp Nou in the Copa del Rey last 16. The Catalan giants have been struggling under new boss Quique Setien, but it seems as if Luis Suarez’s absence (injury) is the main reason for the team’s poor form. Barca are eager to get back on course, and we predict that they will go all guns blazing at Leganes in the Copa del Rey showdown.
As always, a man to watch in the home team will be Leo Messi, who missed a couple of clear-cut opportunities to score in the 2-0 loss to Valencia. The capital club, on the other hand, are fighting hard to avoid relegation to the Segunda Division, meaning that Mexican tactician Javier Aguirre is unlikely to field the best possible side against Leo Messi and Co.
Highlighted Player (Gerard Pique):
Gerard Pique is a Spanish footballer who was born in Barcelona on 2 February, 1987. He is married to famous Colombian singer Shakira and they have two sons Milan and Sasha. Pique is a product of La Masia, the Barca’s youth academy, but he started his senior career at Manchester United.
He returned to his boyhood club in 2008 and he has been playing for the Catalan giants ever since. The 193-cm-tall footballer is a centre back who is good in the air. His main position is centre back, but he is capable of playing a defensive midfielder if needed. Pique won his sixth La Liga trophy with Barca in the 2015/2016 season and in 2008 he has three Champions League titles with the Catalan giants as well.
During his spell with Manchester United, Gerard Pique won the Premier League trophy (2007/2008) and he helped the Red Devils win the Champions League trophy the same season. Speaking of his international career, the Barcelona defender won the 2010 FIFA World Cup with Spain, while lifting the European Championship trophy two years later.
Highlighted Team (Leganes):
Leganes are a Spanish football club that have mostly been playing in lower leagues. Los Pepineros play their home games at Batarque (Madrid) and the capacity of the stadium is just 8,138. Leganes secured their promotion to the Spanish La Liga for the first time ever in 2016 and, no doubt, that is considered the club’s biggest success.
Leganes’ bitterest rivals are fellow capital club Getafe and there have always been fireworks when the two teams take on each other in the South Madrid derby.
The colour of the team’s home kit is white and blue, whilst their away kits are green. The likes of Pierre Webo, Samuel Eto’o, Ivan Zarandona, Jose Chamot, Catanha, Ruben Falcon, Jordi Lardin and Pedro Lago are famous players who were part of the Batarque outfit in the past. Lady Maria Victoria Pavon is the first female president in the history of the club and she has been in charge of the club since 2009.
