Our prediction for this Euro 2024 match:
After surviving Andorra in the September qualifier, Switzerland will look to retain top position in Group I when they take on Belarus on Sunday afternoon. The Rossocrociati are leading the chase for the Euro 2024 qualification, but both Israel and Romania are still breathing down their neck. Even though Switzerland are a real force to be reckoned with at home, they will have to showcase their worth on the field.
Defender Manuel Akanji is one yellow card away from suspension, while both Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka made the cut. Belarus, on the other hand, have little to play for in Sunday’s qualifier and we do not believe that they are capable of spoiling Switzerland’s party at Kybunpark. As for the away team, all Bocherov, Bakhar, and Karpovich are pushing for a start after the trio came off the bench in a goalless draw with Romania on Thursday evening.
Highlighted Player (Granit Xhaka):
Granit Xhaka is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most talented central midfielders at the moment and he is on the radar of quite a few high-profile sides. Just two seasons at FC Basel proved enough to attract interest from Borussia M’gladbach, who secured his signature in the summer of 2012.
The Switzerland international had a slow start to his career in Germany, causing many pundits to start doubting his credentials, but he eventually turn things around to show he is more than capable of playing at the highest level. Acting as a deep-lying playmaker, Xhaka impressed fans and pundits alike with his performances in Bundesliga and European competitions, and he even managed to score a couple of important goals in the process.
Despite his fragile age, the highly regarded footballer has been a key member of the Switzerland national team for quite some time now, scoring 6 goals in his first 40 caps to establish himself as a real leader of the Rossocrociati. The 2014 World Cup, where he scored one goal in four starts, should prove just the first of many major tournaments to come.
Highlighted Team (Belarus):
Belarus national football team have been competing on the international stage since 1992. The Belarusians played their first match against Lithuania on July 20, 1992, but the game was not FIFA-recognized. The White Wings faced Ukraine in their first official match, with the team sharing the spoils with the fellow former Soviet republic.
Belarus have yet to qualify for a major tournament and they have slim chances of booking their place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The Belarusians recorded their biggest win on September 4, 2014, with the team rolling over Tajikistan 6-1 in Borisov and speaking of their biggest loss, they were hammered by Austria (0-5) on June 11, 2003.
Alexander Hleb is the most famous footballer who played for the Belarus national team and it is well known that he spent four seasons at Barcelona. Belarus play their home games at Borisov Arena and they wear white shirts and white shorts when welcoming their rivals. The colour of their away kits is black.
