Cuba and Curacao take on each other at Estadio Pedro Marrero in what is expected to be a close World Cup qualifier. Cuba kicked off their qualifying campaign with a 1-0 loss at Guatemala, but there were some positivities in their performance in the Estadio Nacional Mateo Flores clash. The Lions of the Caribbean are eager to give fans some cheer, but keep in mind that talented midfielder Karel Espino misses the game through suspension.
Curacao, on the other hand, rolled over Saint Cinvent and the Grenadines 5-0 in their opener to climb to top position in Group C. Beating Cuba in Havana, though, is easier said than done, and we believe that punters can find value in betting on draw. It has to be noted that the two teams shared the spoils in each of their previous two meetings on the international stage. Huddersfield Town attacker Juninho Bacuna, who scored a brace on Thursday evening, will be the man to watch in the away team.
Highlighted Player (Leandro Bacuna):
Despite being born in Netherlands Leandro Bacuna decided to represent Curacao on international stage. The powerful midfielder, who parents are of Curacaoan descent, is a product of Groningen youth school and it has to be noted that he scored 14 goals in 109 appearances for the first team.
After ending his spell with Groningen, Leandro Bacuna joined Aston Villa in 2013 and he has been playing for the Villa Park outfit ever since. The Curacao international scored his first Premier League goal in September, 2013 against Manchester City, but seeing that Aston Villa coaches often used him as a full back he was not impressive in front of goal in previous seasons.
Leandro Bacuna was born in Groningen on August 21, 1991 and it has to be noted that he received his first call-up for the Curacao national football team 25 years later, in March 2016. The two teams played out a 1-1 draw in San Salvador, with Bacuna picking up a yellow card in the 54th minute of the game.

Back in 1930 Cuba national football team made their debut on the international stage, with the team beating Jamaica (then a British colony) 3-1 in Havana. Only four days later, the Cubans outclassed Honduras 7-0 in yet another friendly, but they have been struggling at major tournaments ever since. The Lions of the Caribbean, who are affiliated to the CONCACAF, participated at the 1938 FIFA World Cup finals, which was the team’s first appearance at the showpiece tournament.
Cuba did well to make it to the quarter-finals, but Sweden proved to be a big catch for the Caribbean side. Anyhow, this is considered the team’s biggest success at the World Cup finals. Speaking of their record at the CONCACAF Championship (Gold Cup), the team won fourth place at the 1971 tournament in Trinidad and Tobago.
Cuba’s first colours are dark blue and red, whilst the team play their away games in white kit. The Lions of the Caribbean recorded their biggest win against Turks and Caicos Islands in September 2018, with the team crushing the minnows 11-0.
