Our prediction for this League 2 match:
AFC Wimbledon will be aiming to make amends for back-to-back losses to Barrow and Stockport County when they face Northampton Town in the League Two round 9. The Dons have been slipping down the standings week by week, with the team sitting in 15th place ahead of Tuesday’s clash. AFC Wimbledon are after their second home win of the season, but they will have a big fish to fry in the midweek clash.
The good news for the hosts is that midfielder Paris Maghoma is back from suspension. The Cobblers, on the other hand, aim to build on a 3-1 win over Barrow. Jon Brady’s men have been producing fine displays on the travels in the first half of the season, which is probably the main reason why away win should be considered. Both Aaron McGowan and Ben Fox should miss out with injuries for the away side.
Highlighted Player (Nikola Tzanev):
Nikola Tzanev is a New Zealand goalkeeper who started his youth career at Crystal Palace. Tzanev then moved to Brentford and he continued wearing the red and white shirt at senior level. After ending his loan spell with Lewes, the 195-cm-tall shoot-stopper moved to AFC Wimbledon in 2017.
During the 2018/2019 campaign he played for Potters Bar Town as a loan player, but at the end of the season he returned to AFC Wimbledon. He made his League One debut with the Dons on August 3, 2019 in a 2-1 loss to Rotherham United. Speaking of his international career, Nik Tzanev made his New Zealand debut in a 1-0 win over Chinese Taipei on June 5, 2018.
The Dons goalkeeper has 3 caps for the New Zealand U20 team as well. Nikola Tzanev was born in Wellington on December 23, 1996 and his preferred foot is right.
Highlighted Team (Northampton):
Northampton are a professional football club that compete in the League Two, the English fourth tier. The Cobblers play their home matches at Sixfields Stadium, the venue that has a capacity of 7,798. Northampton Town are well known for their claret and white home kit, while black is the dominant colour of their away jersey.
Northampton did well to make it to the Charity Shield final in 1909, with the team suffering a 2-0 loss to Newcastle United in the title game. The Cobblers are holding the record for the shortest time taken to secure promotion from the bottom tier to the top flight and relegated back down to the bottom again. Northampton Town managed to do so in only nine years.
Peterborough united are regarded as the club’s main rivals, with other significant rivalries including the likes of Oxford United, Milton Keynes Dons, Cambridge United, Coventry City, and Rushden & Diamonds.
