Our prediction for this World Cup 2026 match:
There will be fireworks when Senegal and D.R. Congo square off against each other in the Group B derby at Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade. The Lions of Teranga are eager to retain top position in the standings, but they will have to showcase their worth on the field. A man to watch in the home team will be former Liverpool ace Sadio Mane, while Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr has recovered in time to face Les Leopards.
D.R. Congo, on the other hand, aim to recover from a 1-0 loss to Sudan. Senegal defenders should have Spartak Moscow Theo Bongonda at bay. Anyhow, home win should be considered as Senegal do not suit D.R. Congo. It has to be noted that the Lions of Teranga emerged triumphant in each of the previous four meetings with Les Leopards in all competitions. Last time out Senegal defeated D.R. Congo 2-0.
Highlighted Player (Sadio Mané):
Sadio Mane is a Senegalese footballer who plays for Liverpool as a winger. Mane was born in Sedhiou Senegal on April 10, 1992, but he made his senior debut at French club Metz. In 2012 he moved to Red Bull Salzburg, with the pacey winger scoring 31 goals in 63 appearances for the club in the Austrian Bundesliga.
Mane then decided to take a step forward in his career as he joined famous Premier League club Liverpool for a fee of £34 million, signing a five-year contract with the Reds. The Senegal international quickly established himself as a first-team regular at Liverpool and, no doubt, he helped the Anfield outfit make it to the 2017/2018 Champions League final.
Speaking of trophies, Sadio Mane won the Austrian Bundesliga with Salzburg in the 2013/2014 season. In 2017 he was named Liverpool player of the year for the 2016/2017 season. Sadio Mane made his Senegal debut in 2012 and he was part of the Senegal team that participated at the 2012 Olympic tournament.
Highlighted Team (DR Congo):
Democratic Republic of Congo made no more than one appearances at the World Cup finals. DR Congo qualified for the major tournament in 1974 and they were playing under the name of Zaire back then. Zaire failed to impress at the showpiece tournament in West Germany as they were beaten by the likes of Scotland, Brazil and Yugoslavia in the group stages.
The Leopards suffered a heavy 9-0 loss to Yugoslavia in Gelsenkirchen and that is considered the team’s biggest defeat. DR Congo (Zaire) won two African Cup of Nations titles, with the team lifting the prestigious trophies in 1968 and 1974.
It has to be noted that the team won the bronze medal at both the 1998 and the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. DR Congo play their home games in sky-blue shirts with red sleeves, while the colour of their away kit is white. Dieumerci Mbokani is the team’s most notable player.
