Our prediction for this World Cup 2026 match:
Canada will be looking to build on a 5-1 win over Bermunda when they take on Cayman Islands in their second group game. The Canucks kicked off their World Cup qualifying campaign in style, and they are likely to adopt yet another attack-minded approach against Cayman Islands. Canada boss John Herdman is unlikely to make changes to the team that crushed Bermuda on Friday morning.
A man to keep an eye on in the away team will be Besiktas attacker Cyle Larin, who scored a hat-trick in the previous qualifier. Cayman Islands, on the other hand, suffered an expected 3-0 loss to Suriname, and they are seen as big underdogs in Sunday’s clash. David faces Goliath at Truman Bodden Stadium, and we predict that the Canadians are going to pick up all three points from the game without any difficulties. Jermaine Wilson is likely to miss the game through injury for the hosts.
Highlighted Player (Scott Arfield):
Despite being born in Dechmont, Scotland, Scott Arfield represents Canada on the international stage. Arfield, though, played for Scotland U19 and U21 teams in the past and he made one appearance for Scotland B as well. Scott’s father, though, was born in Toronto, Canada and that is the main reason why he decided to play for the Canada national football team.
The Burnley midfielder made his Canada debut on March 25, 2016 in a 3-0 loss to Mexico. Scott Arfield began his club career at Falkirk and he scored 13 goals in 108 appearances in the league for the Scottish club. In 2010 he signed a deal with Huddersfield Town and he played for the Terriers from until 2013.
As previously mentioned, Arfield currently wear’s Burnley shirt, meaning that he is enjoying the Premier League football. You should bear in mind that the Scottish midfielder netted one goal for Burnley in the 2016/2017 season. He found the net in a 2-1 win over Everton on October 10, 2016.
Highlighted Team (Canada):
Canada national football team played their first official match back in 1924 when they suffered a 3-2 loss to Australia in Brisbane. The following year the two teams faced each other one in Adelaide, with the Canadians managing to get their revenge on the Socceroos. The Canucks had several unsuccessful attempts to make it to the World Cup finals, but in 1986 they finally booked their place at the showpiece tournament.
Canada faced France in their opener, with Jean-Pierre Papin scoring the winner for les Tricolores in the dying minutes of the match. The Canadians were beaten by Hungary and USSR in the next two group games as well and, as a result, they failed to advance to the knockout stages.
Speaking of the team’s trophies, the Canucks won the CONCACAF Gold cup on two occasions (1985, 2000), with the team beating Honduras and Colombia respectively in the title games. Canada national football team play their home games at BMO Field and the capacity of the venue is 30,000.
