Our prediction for this Euro 2024 match:
Germany will be aiming to build on a hard-fought 2-1 win over Greece when they kick-off their EURO 2024 campaign. The Germans are eyeing their first European Championship trophy since 1996 and they are likely to go all guns blazing at Steve Clarke’s troops in their opener. The likes of Serge Gnabry, Mats Hummels, Karim Adeyemi, and Timo Werner have been omitted, while Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane should be recalled to the starting XI after coming as a substitute in the triumph over Greece. Bayern Munich defender Aleksandar Pavlovic has been ruled out with injury.
The Scotts, on the other hand, played out a 2-2 draw with Finland in their last warm-up game. The likes of John McGinn, Andy Robertson, and Scott McTominay are the most notable players in Steve Clarke’s team. Even though the Manchester United midfielder returns to the starting line-up, we are tempted to put our money on the tournament hosts, who are expected to shine at the 2024 European Championship finals.
Highlighted Player (Toni Kroos):
Toni Kroos is a Real Madrid midfielder who started playing for Bayern Munich II at senior level. He made 13 appearances for the reserve team and on 31 January, 2009 he joined Bayer Leverkusen on loan. He made his Bayer debut on 28 February, 2009, coming as a substitute in a 1-0 loss to Hannover.
The German midfielder scored ten goals in 43 league appearances with the BayArena outfit and in the summer of 2010 he returned to Bayern Munich. Kroos won three Bundesliga trophies with the mighty Bavarian giants (2007/2008, 2012/2013, 2013/2014) and in 2013 he was part of Bayern Munich’s team that won the Champions League trophy.
In 2014, though, he decided to leave the club and the German superstar joined Real Madrid on a six-year-contract. Kroos won the 2015/2016 Champions League trophy with los Blancos and it has to be noted that he produced a thrilling performance in the title game against Atletico Madrid. In 2014 he clinched the FIFA World Cup trophy with Germany.
Highlighted Team (Scotland):
Despite being part of United Kingdom Scotland participate in football competitions as an independent country. The Scots qualified for the 1950 FIFA World Cup finals, but the SFA eventually withdrew their entry as they were not British champions. Four years later Scotland national football team participated at the showpiece tournament in Switzerland, but they were eliminated in the group stages.
Scotland booked their place at the FIFA World Cup on eight occasions, but they have not played a match at the finals of the major tournament since 1998. On the other hand, the Scotts participated at both Euro 1992 and Euro 1996, but they failed to qualify for the knockout stages at the tournaments in Sweden and England respectively. A number of Premier League stars played for the Scotland national football team in the past and Jim Baxter, Hughie Gallacher, John Greig, Jimmy Johnstone, Billy McNeill, Bobby Murdoch, Archie Gemmill and Lawrie Reilly are the footballers who made more than 50 appearances for Scotland, with Alan Hutton and Scott Brown joining the list recently.
The Scotts recorded their biggest win back in February 23, 1901, with the team rolling over Ireland 11-0. The team suffered their biggest defeat against Uruguay (0-7) in June, 1954. Gordon Strachan’s team welcome their opponents at Hampden Park.
