There will be fireworks when Argentina and Uruguay square off against each other at Estadio Antonio Vespucio Liberti on Monday morning. La Celeste head into the match following a goalless draw with Paraguay, where Joaquin Correa missed a couple of clear-cut opportunities to break the deadlock. Inter attacker Lautaro Martinez misses the Paraguay game with injury, and he is rated doubtful for the Uruguay showdown.
As always, a man to watch in the home team will be PSG superstar Leo Messi. La Celeste, on the other hand, head into the match with a severely-weakened squad as both Luis Suarez and Jose Maria Gimenez suffered injuries in the goalless draw with Colombia. Edinson Cavani returns to the starting XI against Argentina, but he is unlikely to help Oscar Tabarez’s troops grab something from the match. To make things even worse for the visitors, Juve midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur serves a one-game ban.

Lionel Messi is regarded as one of the best players in the history of football. He was born on 24 June, 1987 in Rosario and he began his football career at Newell’s Old Boys. At age 10 he was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency, but having realized his potential at a young age, Barcelona decided to pay for his treatment.
Messi joined Barca in 2001 and he has been playing for the Camp Nou outfit ever since. The Argentine magician has won eight La Liga trophies with Barca and he helped the Catalan giants lift no less than four Champions League titles (2005/2006, 2008/2009, 2010/2011, 2014/2015).
In the 2011/2012 La Liga campaign Messi scored 50 goals for Barca, while netting 14 goals in the 2011/2012 Champions League campaign. The five-time Golden Ball award winner has established himself as Barcelona’s all-time top scorer, but he has yet to win a trophy with Argentina national team at major tournaments. Leo Messi, though, has won Olympic Gold Medal (2008) and FIFA World Youth Championship (2005), with la Albiceleste.

La Celeste are one of the most successful South American nations. Uruguay are frequently the champions of the continent having most recently won the tournament in 2011. They have won the Copa America a record 15 times including the first ever edition of the competition in 1916, while the team has also won FIFA World Cup in two occasions including the inaugural competition in 1930 when they defeated Argentina 4-2 in the final as hosts.
Their second World Cup title came in 1950 when Uruguay and Brazil played a legendary match which recorded a higher attendance than any other football match in the history of the game. Uruguay is the smallest country in the world to have won a World Cup by population, but La Celeste are proud of their football heritage which yielded some of the best footballers in the world over the course of history.
Most notable player of the current selection is Barcelona striker Luis Suarez, who is also the team’s top scorer with 45 goals to his name.
