Our prediction for this World Cup 2026 match:
Mexico play host to Jamaica at Estadio Azteca in what is expected to be an entertaining World Cup qualifier. El Tri aim to bounce back from the Gold Cup defeat to USA, and we are positive that the hosts will go all guns blazing at the Reggae Boyz. The good news for the hosts is that Wolverhampton attacker Raul Jimenez returns to the squad after overcoming his injury, but Napoli ace Hirving Lozano remains in the recovery room.
Hector Herrera and Diego Lainez have been left out of the squad as well. Jamaica, on the other hand, did well to make it to the Gold Cup quarter-finals, but USA eventually proved to be a big catch for Theodore Whitmore’s troops. Anyhow, the Reggae Boyz are not regarded as good travelers, and we do not believe that they are capable of spoiling Mexico’s party at Estadio Azteca. A man to watch in the away team will be new Aston Villa signing Leon Bailey.
Highlighted Player (Jonathan dos Santos):
While playing at a youth tournament in France, Jonathan Dos Santos was spotted by FC Barcelona scouts, who were delighted with what they saw. The Barca chiefs decided to bring Jonathan and his brother Giovani to La Masia, with both passing the trial.
The Mexican midfielder, who was born in Monterrey on April 26, 1990, scored 6 goals in 81 appearances for Barcelona B from 2009 to 2012, but he played no more than 14 games for the senior team in the Spanish top flight. On July 9, 2014 Jonathan dos Santos moved to Villareal and he scored his first La Liga goal in December against Deportivo La Coruna.
The Mexico international played an important role at Villarreal until 2017 when he decided to sign a contract with MLS club Los Angeles Galaxy. The biggest success of his career, though, is winning the UEFA Champions League title in the 2010/2011 season with Barca. Unlike his brother, Jonathan’s preferred foot is right.
Highlighted Team (Jamaica):
The Reggae Boyz are enjoying in their 2014 Copa Centroamericana title and are looking forward to their second-ever entry into the Copa America. Jamaica took positives from their debut in the competition last year in Chile despite going out in the group stage and will now be willing to make one step further.
The country had more success later in the summer when Winfried Schafer’s men knocked off the United States in the semi-finals of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Reggae Boyz were ultimately stopped in the final as they lost to Mexico, but the ticket to 2016 Copa America was enough of a reward itself as four highest finishers were guaranteed a place at the competition.
Jamaica stepped onto the international scene with a 2-1 win over Haiti in 1925 and have so far qualified only once for the FIFA World Cup in 1998. It was not until 1965 that Jamaica made their first attempt to qualify for the World Cup though.
