Ghana
A place at the 2022 World Cup will be at stake when Nigeria and Ghana go head to head at Lagos National Stadium on Tuesday. The two teams played out a goalless draw in Kumasi, but the Super Eagles are seen as favourites to win the return leg. Victor Osimhen should continue to lead the line for the hosts, while Everton winger Alex Iwobi is in the middle of a three-game ban. Leicester City attacker Kelechi Iheanacho should start as well.
The Black Stars, on the other hand, are likely to adopt a defence-minded approach in the return leg, but preventing Nigeria from scoring in Lagos is easier said than done. Otto Addo has no fresh injury worries, and he is unlikely to make changes to the team that shared the spoils with the Super Eagles in the first leg.
Highlighted Player (Alex Iwobi):
Alex Iwobi is one of the most talented African footballers. The Nigerian football player was born in Lagos on May 3, 1996, but he moved to Arsenal at the age of 8. In 2015 he made his first-team debut for the Gunners, starting in a 3-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup.
Speaking of his Premier League debut, Alex Iwobi played his first game for Arsenal in a 3-0 victory over Swansea City in October, 2015. The pacey winger played for England at youth level, but he eventually went on to play for Nigeria. Iwobi made his senior debut with the Super Eagles on October 8, 2015, coming as a substitute for Ahmed Musa in a 2-0 loss to DR Congo.
On October 7, 2017 the Arsenal footballer scored the winner for Nigeria against Zambia (1-0) which helped the Super Eagles book their place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals. Speaking of his individual trophies, Alex Iwobi was named CAF Young Player of the Year 2016.
Highlighted Team (Ghana):
Ghana are an African football team administered by Ghana Football Association. The Black Stars made their first ever appearances at the World Cup finals in 2006 and they were grouped with the likes of Italy, Czech Republic and United States. Ghana booked their place in the last 16, but they were outclassed by Brazil in the knockout stages of the showpiece tournament.
In 2010 the Ghanaians did remarkably well to make it to the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup and it has to be noted that they were more than unfortunate not to eliminate Uruguay in the knockout stages of the tournament in South Africa.
The likes of Asamoah Gyan, Richard Kingson, John Paintsil, Emmanuel Agymang-Badu, Sulley Muntari, John Mensah, Andre Ayew, Kwadwo Asamoah, Harrison Afful and Abedi Pele are Ghana’s most capped players, but, no doubt, Michael Essien is the most famous footballer who played for the Black Stars. The Ghanaians play their home games in white shirts, while the colour of the team’s away kit is red.
