Our prediction for this World Cup 2026 match:
Estadio Nacional de Lima will host Wednesday’s World Cup qualifier between Peru and Paraguay. The Peruvians aim to make amends for a 1-0 loss to Uruguay, and they have no other choice but to go all guns blazing at the Paraguayans. Peru are determined to book their place in the playoffs, but they will have to prove their worth on the field. Raziel Garcia is back from suspension, while DC United forward Edison Flores is widely expected to return to the starting XI.
Paraguay, on the other hand, failed to book their place at the World Cup despite beating Ecuador 3-1 on Friday. Considering that la Albirroja are not regarded as good travelers, we believe that punters from all around the globe can find value in betting on the qualification-chasing hosts. Junior Alonso returns from suspension for the visiting side.
Highlighted Player (Paolo Hurtado):
Paolo Hurtado is a Peru international who plays for Vitoria Guimaraes in Primeira Liga. Hurtado was born on July 27, 1990 in Callao, Peru and he is a product of Alianza Lima football school. The pacey winger, who is capable of playing as a centre-forward as well, continued playing for Allianza Lima at senior level and it has to be noted that he scored 14 goals in 83 appearances in the league for los Blanquiazules.
After playing 21 games on loan at Juan Aurich, Paolo Hurtado moved to Portugal, signing a deal with Pacos Fereira. The Peruvian attacker quickly established himself as the team’s key player and he played for the club from 2012 to 2015.
In 2015 he decided to take his career to the next level as he joined Championship side Reading. However, after failing to adapt to the new surroundings, Paolo Hurtado returned to Portugal and signed a loan deal with Vitoria Guimaraes. On July 20, 2017 the Peruvian footballer joined the Primeira Liga side permanently.
Highlighted Team (Paraguay):
Los Guaranies are the part of CONMEBOL confederation vying for glory at the international scene since 1919 and their debut loss to Argentina 5-1. Paraguay are regular participants at the Copa America winning the tournament on two occasions thus far, most recently in 1979.
They came close to glory in recent editions of the tournament as they fell short in the final of 2011 to Uruguay, while they finished fourth in 2015. The most successful period of the Paraguay national team came under Argentine coach Gerardo Martino, who took Paraguay to the quarter-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup for the first time in history. Following the 2010 success, Paraguay failed to qualify for their fourth successive FIFA World Cup finals as they have also missed out on the third consecutive global championship held inside their own continent.
Toluca FC centre back Paulo da Silva is the most capped player of the Paraguay national team, while former Bayern Munich and Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz is the team’s top scorer with 32 goals to his name.
