Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
Nice will be looking to build on a hard-fought 1-0 win over Lens when they take on St Etienne in the Ligue 1 round 22. Les Aiglons did well to put an end to their five-match winless run in the Ligue 1, with the team regaining a much-needed confidence. Denmark international Kasper Dolberg, who provided an assist for Atal at the weekend, will be the man to watch in the home team. The likes of Dante, Danilo Barbosa, Morgan Schneiderlin, Rony Lopes, and Yoann Cardinale are all out of contention with injuries.
Les Verts, on the other hand, must be low on confidence following a heavy 5-0 loss to their bitter local rivals Lyon. Saint Etienne were beaten by both Reims and Strasbourg in the previous two away games, which is yet another reason why we are tempted to put our money on Nice. Several St Etienne players have been tested positive for coronavirus, including Souici, Moukoudi, Monnet-Paquet, Green, Gabriel, Debuchy, and Bajic.
Highlighted Player (Dante):
Dante is a left-footed defender who was born in Salvador, Brazil on 18 October, 1983. The 189-cm-tall centre back, who is capable of playing as a left back as well, started his senior career at Juventude. After making 53 appearances for the club between 2002 and 2004 he moved to Ligue 1 outfit Lille.
He played for Belgian sides Charleroi and Standard from 2006 to 2009 and on 27 December, 2008 he signed a contract with Borussia M’gladbach for an undisclosed fee. After impressing with the Fohlen in the 2011/2012 Bundesliga campaign he moved to Bayern Munich at the end of the season and it has to be noted that he scored three goals in 83 league appearances for FCB.
In 2015 he signed a contract with fellow Bundesliga team Wolfsburg and he played 24 league games for the Wolves in the 2015/2016 season. In 2013 he won the Champions League trophy with Bayern Munich and he lifted the FIFA Confederations Cup with Brazil the same year.
Highlighted Team (St Etienne):
Saint Etienne are a professional football club that compete in French Ligue 1. Les Verts were founded in 1919 by employees of a grocery store chain based in Saint Etienne. Saint Etienne wear green shirts and white shorts when playing at home ground and they play their home matches at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
The stadium was opener on 13 September, 1931 and following the renovation the capacity of the venue increased to 42 000. In 1981 les Verts won their tenth Ligue 1 trophy, but they have been in the shadow of Ligue 1 giants Lyon and PSG in the 21st century.
Speaking of the club’s European success, Saint Etienne made it to the European Cup (Champions League) final in 1976, but Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich proved to be a big catch for the French outfit. Anyhow, that is regarded as the club’s biggest success. It has to be noted that the likes of Michel Platini, Jacques Santini, Laurent Blanc and Aime Jacquet all played for Saint Etienne in the past.
