Our prediction for this Premier League match:
After recording a routine 2-0 win over Newcastle United, Chelsea will be looking to give fans yet another reason for celebration when they take on Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium. The Blues are on a five-game winning run in all competitions, but they need to keep on raising their form if they are to secure a top-four finish. Tammy Abraham picked up a knock in the win over Newcastle, meaning that Giroud is likely to replace him in the starting XI.
Both Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz are likely to miss the game with injuries. The Saints, on the other hand, experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 2-1 home loss to Wolverhampton. Southampton are on a six-game losing run in the English top flight, and we do not believe that they are capable of grabbing something from Saturday's clash. The likes of Obafemi, Walcott, Diallo, and Walker-Peters are all sidelined with injuries.
Highlighted Player (Shane Long):
Shane Long is an Irish international striker who has so far made over 60 appearances for the Republic of Ireland national team, scoring more than 15 goals in the process. The forward began his professional career at Cork City, but only made one league appearance for the club ahead of the switch to Reading, where he would go on to spend next seven years.
During that time, Long established himself as one of the best Irish strikers plying their trade in England, and also went on to represent West Bromwich Albion, Hull City and Southampton.
Despite not exactly boasting an enviable goalscoring record for a centre forward, Long was always held in high regard by both managers and his peers, with his incredible work rate and never-say-die attitude winning him plenty of admirers. Long will also go down as one of the most prolific scorers in the history of the Republic of Ireland national team, which he represented at the Euro 2012 and Euro 2016 finals.
Highlighted Team (Chelsea):
Over the years Chelsea have established themselves as one of the dominant forces in the English Premier League. Roberto Di Matteo helped the team win their first ever Champions League trophy (2011/2012), but it has to be noted that they were more than fortunate to beat Bayern Munich in the title game.
Chelsea have been playing at Stamford Bridge since 1876 and they are a real force to be reckoned with at home. The Blues have won seven FA Cups, five League Cups, two UEFA Cup Winners’ Cups and the UEFA Europa League. Rafael Benitez was in charge of the team that faced Benfica in the 2012/2013 Europa League final, with Branislav Ivanovic scoring the winner for the Blues in the title clash.
After lifting the 2014/2015 Premier League trophy, the Blues largely struggled in the next campaign, which saw Jose Mourinho’s second spell with the club come to an end, and Antoine Conte went over to take the reigns for the 2016/2017 season.
