Our prediction for this match:
Bayern Munchen will be looking to kick off their preseason in style when they face Koln at Techonologie Arena on Saturday. New boss Julian Nagelsmann is unlikely to use players who took part at EURO 2020 finals, but the Bundesliga champions are still seen as favourites to win the warm-up game. Big-money signing Dayot Upamecano should make his Bayern Munchen debut against Koln.
The Billy Goats, on the other hand, failed to impress in the 2020/21 Bundesliga season, but they eventually managed to secure the elite division survival. Koln outplayed their local rivals Fortuna Koln in their first warm-up game, but they will have a much bigger fish to fry against FCB. Anyhow, a high-scoring affair is on the cards as over 2.5 goals have been netted in each of the previous five meetings between the two teams.
Highlighted Player (Frederik Sorensen):
Frederik Sorensen is a Danish footballer who plays for Bundesliga side Koln as a defender. He plays as a centre back, but he is capable of playing as a right back as well. Sorensen was born in Copenhagen on 14 April, 1992 and he played for the likes of Roskilde KFUM, Himmelev-Veddelev, FC Roskilde and Lyngby during his youth career.
The 194-cm-tall defender was spotted by Juventus scouts in 2010 and on 27 August he officially signed a contract with the “Old Lady”. Nonetheless, Sorensen made no more than 17 league appearances for Juve between 2010 and 2012. On 17 January, 2012 he joined Bologna for a fee of € 2.5 million and he made 42 league appearances for the Rossoblu, scoring two goals for the club.
After ending his loan spell with Verona in 2015, he signed a deal with Koln for €1.6 million and he has been playing for the Bundesliga outfit ever since. Frederik Sorensen has 15 caps for Denmark U21 team and he played for the U20 and the U17 team as well.
Highlighted Team (Bayern Munich):
Over the years Bayern Munich have established themselves as one of the most successful European clubs. The Stern des Sudens (Star of the South) are the dominant force in German football and it has to be noted that the Bavarians clinched their 26th Bundesliga title in 2016. Bayern Munich have won 18 German Cup trophies, while winning the Champions League (European Cup) five times.
The German giants clinched the Intercontinental Cup in 1976 and 2001, while lifting the FIFA Club World Cup trophy in 2013. Bayern Munich was founded in 1900 by eleven football players and their leader was Franz John. The Bavarians host their rivals at Allianz Arena (75,000), the stadium that was built in 2005.
Fellow Bavarian sides TSV 1860 Munchen 1860 and Nurnberg are regarded as Bayern Munich’s fiercest rivals, but the rivalry between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern is big as well. The likes of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Franz Beckenbauer, Lothar Matthaus, Oliver Kahn, Gerd Muller and Giovane Elber are famous footballers who played for Bayern Munich in the past.
