Our prediction for this Premier League match:
Buoyed by a hard-fought 1-0 win over Wolverhampton, Liverpool will look to overtake Man City in top position when they face Aston Villa in the Premier League round 16. The Reds are enjoying a very successful season, but they need to keep on making progress if they are to regain the domestic trophy. All Firmino, Elliott, and Jones remain in the recovery room, while Keita is a major doubt. As always, a man to keep an eye on in the home team will be top scorer Mohamed Salah.
The Villans, on the other hand, quickly bounced back from a 2-1 loss to Man City, with the team beating Leicester City at home ground. New boss Steven Gerrard helped the team regain a much-needed confidence, but seeing that Liverpool are a real force to be reckoned with at home, Stevie G is unlikely to grab something from the clash against his former club. Danny Ings will be assessed ahead of the kick-off, while all Trezeguet, Traore, and Bailey remain in the recovery room.
Highlighted Player (Sadio Mané):
Sadio Mane is a Senegalese footballer who plays for Liverpool as a winger. Mane was born in Sedhiou Senegal on April 10, 1992, but he made his senior debut at French club Metz. In 2012 he moved to Red Bull Salzburg, with the pacey winger scoring 31 goals in 63 appearances for the club in the Austrian Bundesliga.
Mane then decided to take a step forward in his career as he joined famous Premier League club Liverpool for a fee of £34 million, signing a five-year contract with the Reds. The Senegal international quickly established himself as a first-team regular at Liverpool and, no doubt, he helped the Anfield outfit make it to the 2017/2018 Champions League final.
Speaking of trophies, Sadio Mane won the Austrian Bundesliga with Salzburg in the 2013/2014 season. In 2017 he was named Liverpool player of the year for the 2016/2017 season. Sadio Mane made his Senegal debut in 2012 and he was part of the Senegal team that participated at the 2012 Olympic tournament.
Highlighted Team (Aston Villa):
Aston Villa is one of the three clubs that dropped to the Championship at the end of the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign. The Villans host their rivals at Villa Park, the stadium that was opened in 1897 and its’ capacity is 42,682. However, it has to be noted that the highest attendance recorded at the stadium was 76,588 when Aston Villa faced Derby County in the FA Cup back in 1946.
Aston Villa’s fiercest rivals are Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion. Nonetheless, the rivalry between Aston Villa and Wolves and Coventry City is big as well. Aston Villa have won seven First Division (Premier League) trophies, with the team clinching seven FA Cup trophies as well.
The team’s biggest success, though, came in 1982 when they won the European Cup. The Villans defeated Bayern Munich (1-0) in the title game and Peter Withe was named the man of the match.
