Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Cambridge United and Accrington Stanley face each other at Abbey Stadium in what is expected to be a close League One encounter. The U’s are on a four-game winless run ahead of the visit of Accrington, but they are safe for now. Since all Jack Iredale, Greg Taylor, Shilow Tracey, Lloyd Jones, and Joe Ironside should miss out with injuries, we are not tempted to put our money on the home side.
The Accy Stanley, on the other hand, aim to build on back-to-back wins over Oxford United and Crewe Alexandra. The visitors want to keep their playoffs hopes alive, but beating Cambridge United at Abbey Stadium is easier said than done. Taking everything into account, we believe that there is a big value in betting on draw. Key attacker Colby Bishop has overcome his injury, while midfielder David Morgan remains in the recovery room.
Highlighted Player (Liam O’Neil):
Born in Cambridge, England on July 31, 1993, Liam O’Neil is an English footballer who plays as both defender as midfielder for Cambridge United in the League Two. O’Neil is a product of the Cambridge United football school, but he played for Histon during his youth career as well.
In the summer of 2012 he joined WBA youth academy, and it has to be noted that he made three appearances for the Baggies at senior level in all competitions. Liam O’Neil played for the likes of VPS and Scunthorpe United on loan as well before joining Chesterfield in 2015.
After scoring two goals in 45 appearances for the club in the league, O’Neil moved to Cambridge United in the winter of 2017. As his mother comes from Wales, O’Neil is open to play for the Wales national team, but he has yet to earn a cap with the Dragons.
Highlighted Team (Accrington):
Founded back in 1891 and reformed in 1968, Accrington Stanley are an English football club that compete in the League One. The original team competed in the Football League from 1921 to 1962, spending the last four seasons in Lancashire Combination.
The Accy are well known for their red home kit, whilst they wear sky blue shirts and white shorts when playing on the travels. The League One side play their home games at Crown Ground, the stadium which can hold up to 5,450 spectators (3,100 seated). Accrington have been playing at Crown Ground since 1970.
Listed as the all-time favourite player amongst fans, Chris Grimshaw is one of the most famous Accrington Stanley footballers. However, George Stewart is the team’s top scorer, netting 136 goals in total from 1954 to 1958. It has to be noted that the Accy have yet to represent England in European competitions.
