Our prediction for this Primera Division match:
Real Madrid will look to clinch their 35th La Liga title when they host Espanyol to their Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Matchday 34. Los Blancos did well to beat Osasuna at the weekend, with the team extending their winning run to four games, and they must be high on spirits ahead of the visit of Espanyol. Karim Benzema should continue to lead the line for the hosts despite failing to convert two penalties in the triumph over los Rojillos, while both David Alaba and Casemiro should recover in time to face los Periquitos.
Eden Hazard remains in the recovery room, whereas both Tony Kroos and Junior Vinicius are pushing for a start. The Catalans, on the other hand, are enjoying a successful season as they are on the cusp of securing the La Liga survival. Anyhow, Real Madrid want this win more than Espanyol, who are stuck in the middle of the table. There are no fresh injury worries in the away team.
Highlighted Player (Karim Benzema):
Striker Karim Benzema came through his youth club Bron Terraillon in Olympique Lyon were he went through all the youth teams.
On January 15, 2005 Benzema made his debut for the first team of Lyon that season but did not have much playing time. In the 2007-2008 season he was indeed a permanent fixture in the team and he got his break . He grew that season right into a crowd favorite and clubs like Arsenal, Juventus, Manchester United, Real Madrid and AC Milan showed interest in him.
Benzema in 2008 (like 2005, 2006, and 2007) was in the champions with Olympique Lyon and had no interest in leaving France. In 2008, Karim was named best French footballer.
Highlighted Team (Espanyol):
Espanyol are a Catalan club that plays in Spanish La Liga. Espanyol were founded in 1900 and their original name was Sociedad Espanola de Football. In 1901 the Catalan club changed its name to Club Espanol de Futbol. Los Periquitos used to play in bright yellow shirts in the past, but current colour of the team’s home kit is blue and white.
Espanyol’s fiercest rivals are Barcelona and the two teams face each other in the Catalan derby (Derbi barceloni). Espanyol have always been in Barca’s shadow, but it has to be noted that los Periquitos have won four Copa del Rey (Spanish Cup trophies).
The likes of Raul Tamudo, Jose Maria, Antonio Argiles and Mauricio Pochettino are players with most appearances for the Catalan outfit. Espanyol play their home games at Estadio Cornella-El Prat and the capacity of the stadium is 40,500. Los Periquitos have never participated in the Champions League.
