Our prediction for this Europa Conference League match:
After coming from two goals behind to beat Chindia 3-2 in the national championship, Steaua will look to extend their winning run to three games when they host Viking to their Arena National in the Conference League playoffs, first leg. The Romanians looked solid at the back in the two-legged tie with Dunajska Streda, and we are positive that they will rely on their defence in Thursday’s clash.
A man to keep an eye on in the home team will be Andrei Cordea, who has found his goal-scoring touch of late. The Norwegians, on the other hand, defeated Sligo 5-2 on aggregate to set up a meeting with Steaua. Viking, though, failed to impress in the reverse fixture against the Irish outfit (0-1), which is probably the main reason why home win should be considered. The good news for the visitors is that talented defender Vebjorn Hagen has overcome his injury.
Highlighted Team (Viking):
Founded back in 1899, Viking are both one of the oldest and the most successful Norwegian teams. The dark blues won their eight domestic trophy in 1991, but they have not been as successful in the 21st century.
Viking won the Norwegian Cup on five occasions (1953, 1959, 1979, 1989, 2001) and knocking Chelsea out of the UEFA Cup during the 2002/2003 season is considered the team’s best achievement in European competitions.
