Our prediction for this League 2 match:
Following a thrilling 3-0 triumph over Gillingham, Salford City will look to give fans yet another reason for celebration when they take on Barrow on Boxing Day. The Lions have a chance to climb to the playoffs berth, and they are likely to go all guns blazing at the Bluebirds. As always, experienced forward Matt Smith will lead the line for the hosts, while Switzerland international Lorent Tolaj should be recalled to the starting XI after he was rested in the EFL Trophy win over Port Vale.
Barrow, on the other hand, suffered a dip in form, with the team losing to both Stevenage (0-5) and Swindon (0-1) in the last two league matches. The visiting side aim to get back on course as soon as possible, but given their difficulties both up front and at the back, home win should be considered. Both Mathieu Baudry and Tom Clayton continue to miss out with injuries for the away team.
Highlighted Player (Tom King):
Thomas Lloyd King is a professional footballer who plays for Newport County as a goalkeeper. Born in Plymouth, England, on March 9, 1995, Tom King played for the likes of Manchester 62, Portsmouth, and Crystal Palace during his youth career.
Despite signing a professional deal with Crystal Palace, the English shot-stopper did not see any game action with the Eagles at the senior level. Tom King moved to Millwall in the summer of 2014, signing a one-year deal with the capital club. After making only 11 appearances for the Lions in the League One, King joined League two side Newport County on June 7, 2019, signing a two-year deal with the South Wales outfit.
It has to be noted that Thomas Lloyd King played for the likes of Welling United, Braintree Town, Stevenage, and AFC Wimbledon on loan as well before signing a deal with Newport County. Tom King has one cap with the England U17 despite his dual citizenship (England/Wales).
Highlighted Team (Barrow):
Founded back in 1901, Barrow is an English club that competes in the League two, the fourth tier of the English football system. The Bluebirds are well known for their blue shirts with white details, but yellow is the dominant colour of their away jersey. Barrow play home games at Holker Street, the stadium which can hold up to 5,045 spectators.
The venue was opened in 1909, and it has to be noted that no fewer than 16,874 people attended the FA Cup match between Barrow and Swansea in January, 1954. The Bluebirds have won two FA Trophies (1989/90, 2009/10), with the team lifting the Lancashire Senior Cup trophy in the 1954/55.
The likes of James Bell, Jim Collins, Andy McLaren, Jimmy Mulholland, Jackie Robertson, Barry Diamond, and George King are the most notable footballers who played for Barrow in the past. It has to be noted that the Bluebirds have never competed in the English top flight.
