Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Portsmouth will look to keep their playoffs hopes alive when they take on Forest Green on Saturday afternoon. The Pompey are six points behind top six, meaning that this has to go down as a must-win game for the home side. Talented forward Paddy Lane limped off with injury in a 2-2 draw with Port Vale, with Michael Jacobs likely to step up. Defender Clark Robertson is pushing for a start as well.
The Green Army, on the other hand, desperately needed a win against Sheffield Wednesday, and they managed to get one. The rock-bottom side, though, are still eleven points behind the safe zone, and given the importance of Saturday’s clash for the playoffs-chasing hosts, we are tempted to put our money on John Mousinho’s troops. A man to watch in the away team will be Jordan Garrick, who scored the winner against Sheffield Wednesday.
Highlighted Player (Luke McGee):
Born on the 2nd of September, 1995, Luke McGee is an English professional footballer who plays for Portsmouth FC in the English Football League One. The 1.92m tall goalkeeper is a Tottenham Hotspur product who turned professional with the club in 2014.
Although never having featured for its first team, McGee made sporadic appearances for the club's Under-18 and Under-23 teams before joining Petersborough United on a 4-month loan. He made his first league one appearance with the club in a 2-2 draw with Port Vale at home on the 10th of September, 2016. At the end of the loan period, he returned to Spurs, who, in turn, sold him to Portsmouth in a deal worth 100,000 euros at the start of the 2017-2018 season.
McGee has since made over 40 appearances for the Pompey, where his current contract runs until the Summer of 2020. On the International front, the 24-year-old has featured for the England Under-17 team, making his debut in 2011 at the age of 15.
Highlighted Team (Portsmouth):
During Milan Mandaric’s era at the club, Portsmouth played an important role in the Premier League, with the team finishing their debut season (2003/2004) in the 13th position in the standings. The club impressed in the 2008/2009 season, with Nwankwo Kanu’s goal helping them beat Cardiff City in the FA Cup final.
As a result, Portsmouth represented England in the Europa League, with the team progressing in the group stages of the competition thanks to a win over Vitoria Gimaraes in the final qualifying round. The current club was formed in 2013, but the original amateur club was founded back in 1883. Nowadays Portsmouth host their rivals at Fratton Park, with the venue holding up to 20,620 spectators.
The likes of Sol Campbell, David James, Glen Johnson and aforementioned Nigeria international Nwankwo Kanu are considered one of the club’s most notable players. Portsmouth wear blue shirts, white shorts and red socks when hosting their rivals at Fratton Park, while wearing white and blue colours when playing on the road.
