Our prediction for this Europa Conference League match:
Aberdeen and PAOK go head to head at Pittodrie Stadium in what is expected to be one of the most exciting games of Thursday’s program. The Dons kicked off their Conference League campaign with a 2-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt, with the team sharing the spoils with Helsinki in their second group game. Aberdeen face a tough challenge against PAOK, but the Scotts will, as always, leave their brave hearts on the field.
Both Shayden Morris and James McGarry should miss out with injuries for the home team. The Black and Whites, on the other hand, aim to keep their 100% record in Group G intact and given their fine display in a 2-0 win over Atromitos at the weekend, away triumph should be considered. Serbia winger Andrija Zivkovic is widely expected to return to the starting XI, while midfielder Soualiho Meite misses out through suspension.
Highlighted Player (Vieirinha):
Better known as Vieirinha, Adelino Andre Vieira de Freitas originates from Guimaraes, and it was at Vitoria Guimaraes that he spent seven years before joining FC Porto academy in 2002. Despite getting promoted to the senior side in 2005, the winger was never given a chance to impress at Estadio do Dragao and following several loan spells, he opted to sign for Greek giants PAOK.
Vieirinha clearly profited from exposure to first team football, scoring 18 goals in 78 league matches for the club. His impressive displays did not go unnoticed and Wolfsburg soon came calling. Despite arriving at the club as a right winger, the Portuguese footballer was eventually converted to right-back near the end of the 2014/2015 season and has since impressed in his new position.
After representing his country at various youth levels, Vieirinha received his first call-up to the senior squad in November 2011, but he had to wait until March 2013 to be handed his debut. The experienced footballer, nonetheless, secured his place in the 2014 World Cup squad, making one appearance at the tournament finals.
Highlighted Team (Aberdeen):
Nicknamed the Dons, Aberdeen are professional football club that compete in the Scottish Premiership. Pittodrie Stadium is the club’s home ground, and it can hold up to 20,866 spectators. The Dons were one of the dominant forces in Scottish football during Sir Alex Ferguson’s era, with the team winning three Scottish League titles from 1980 to 1985.
However, Aberdeen clinched their first domestic trophy in the 1954/55 season, with the team finishing the process three points clear of Scottish giants Celtic. The club’s biggest success came in the 1982/83 season when they defeated the famous Spanish club Real Madrid 2-1 in the title game. Later in 1983, Aberdeen won the UEFA Super Cup as they defeated Hamburger SV 2-0 at Volksparkstadion.
The Dons are well known for their red home kit, while away shirt has a shiny gold base colour. Inverness Caledonian are considered one of the club’s biggest rivals, with the two teams facing each other in the North derby.
