Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
Gofferstadion will host Sunday’s Eredivisie game between NEC Nijmegen and Ajax. The hosts have drawn each of their last five league matches and, no doubt, they would be happy with one point from the Ajax game as well. Mathias Ross could sneak into the starting XI after scoring as a substitute in a 1-1 draw with Go Ahead Eagles, while experienced forward Bas Dost remains on the sidelines with heart problems.
The Amsterdammers, on the other hand, rolled over Vitesse 5-0 in their last league match to regain a much-needed confidence and seeing that they are eager to keep their Champions League hopes alive away win should be considered. Brian Brobbey faces race against clock to be fit for the match, with Gorter and Mannsverk being rated doubtful as well. In their last meeting in the Eredivisie Ajax defeated NEC Nijmegen 1-0 thanks to Mohammed Kudus’ goal.
Highlighted Player (Steven Bergwijn):
Steven Bergwin is a product of ASC Waterwijk football school, but in 2009 he was spotted by Ajax scouts. In 2011 he moved to PSG and he continued playing for the club’s reserve team at senior level. He made his debut with the senior team on May 20, 2015 in a 2-0 win over Heracles.
Over the years the Dutch footballer born in Amsterdam on October 8, 1997, has established himself as a first-team regular at PSV, earning a call-up for the national team as well. Steven Bergwijn made his Netherlands debut on October 12, 2018 in a 3-0 win over Germany. His main position is left winger, but he is used as both right winger and centre-forward as well.
His preferred foot is right and it has to be noted that his parents are of Suriname descent, he has a dual citizenship. Bergwijn scored 14 goals in 33 appearances for PSV in the 2018/2019 Eredivisie season.
Highlighted Team (Ajax):
Ajax is a Dutch football club that was founded on 18 March, 1900. Ajax are well known for their youth academy, which regarded as one of the best youth football schools in the world. The likes of Johan Cruijff, Edwin van der Sar, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Kluivert, Rafael van der Vaart and Marco van Basten are all products of Ajax’s football academy. The Amsterdammers share a big rivalry with Feyenoord and there have always been fireworks when the two teams face each other in De Klassieker.
During the seventies Feyenoord and Ajax were the only two teams who were capable of winning the domestic trophies, while PSV have been playing an important role in Dutch football in the 21st century. PSV and Ajax are regarded as big rivals as well and the two teams square off against each other in De Topper. Ajax play their home games at Amsterdam ArenA, the stadium that was opened on 14 August, 1996. The Amsterdammers won their fourth European Cup (Champions League) trophy in 1995, beating Milan in the title game in Vienna.
