Our prediction for this Championship match:
Preston will look to stay in the playoffs race when they take on Stoke City in the Championship round 37. The Lilywhites played out a goalless draw with Hull City at the weekend, but they had their chances to score the winner. Both Brad Potts and Kian Best remain on the sidelines with injuries, but there are no fresh injury worries in the home team ahead of Saturday’s encounter. Ryan Lowe is likely to stick to the 3-4-3 formation, with Mads Frokjaer-Jensen up front as a lone centre-forward.
The Potters, on the other hand, failed to spoil Leeds United’s party at Elland Road. Stoke City are on a four-game losing run on the road and despite their desire to escape the relegation zone, we are tempted to place our bets on the playoffs-chasing hosts. Ben Pearson is banned for the match, while all Enda Stevens, Luke McNally, and Junior Tchamadeu remain on the sidelines with injuries for the visiting team.
Highlighted Player (Jack Bonham):
Jack Bonham is a professional footballer who was born in Stevenage on the 14th of September, 1993. The 26-year-old, although having born in England, is an Irish International and has featured for the Republic of Ireland's Under-17 team five times.
At the club level, he began his youth career with Watford and signed his first professional contract in September 2010 at the age of 17. Bonham's first-ever professional appearance came on the 4th of May, 2013 as a substitute against Leeds United in the final game of the 12/13 Championship season.
This appearance marked the 1.92 m standing goalkeeper's only appearance in a Watford shirt. Bonham then went on to play for clubs like Brentford, Carlisle United and Bristol Rovers before eventually joining Gillingham at the start of the 2019 season on a two-year contract. He's since featured nine times for the club and kept two clean sheets.
Highlighted Team (Preston):
Preston North End or Preston were founded in 1880. The Lilywhites or the Invincibles play their home games at Deepdale, the stadium that was built in 1875 and opened three years later.
In 1889 Preston won their first FA Cup trophy and they did well to beat Huddersfield Town in the final of the 1938 FA Cup final. However, the club’s biggest success came in 1889 and 1890 when they won back-to-back domestic trophies (First Division).
Preston have yet to win the League Cup title, but they were runners-up in 1888, 1922, 1937, 1954, 1964. Preston’s main rivals are Blackpool and the two teams square off against each other in the West Lancashire derby. In their first ever meeting in the West Lancashire derby (1901) Preston recorded a 4-1 win over Blackpool.
Burnley and Blackburn Rovers are considered Preston’s big rivals as well. The colour of Preston’s shirts is white and they wear dark blue shorts.
