Our prediction for this Africa Cup of Nations 2024 match:
After failing to impress in the World Cup playoffs, Algeria will look to give fans some cheer when they take on Uganda in the opening match of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. The Greens are likely to leave their hearts on the field, but they will have to do it without Man City ace Riyad Mahrez, who has been omitted.
The Cranes, on the other hand, experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 4-2 loss to Uzbekistan in a March friendly, which is probably the main reason why home win should be considered. In Riyad Mahrez’s absence, a man to keep an eye on in the home team will be experienced attacker Islam Slimani, who has netted 40 goals for the national team to date. As for the visitors, Algeria defenders should have Al Ittihad Emmanuel Okwi at bay.
Highlighted Player (Saïd Benrahma):
Said Benrahma is an Algeria international who started his club career at Nice. The pacey winger made his Ligue 1 debut during the 2013/2014 season and after scoring 3 goals in 17 appearances for les Aiglons in the French top flight, he moved to the Championship team Brentford in the summer of 2018.
Said Benrahma was born in Ain Temouchent, Algeria on August 10, 1995 and it has to be noted that he played for the likes of Angers, Gazelec Ajaccio and Chateauroux on loan before joining the Griffin Park outfit. The Algerian footballer impressed in the 2018/2019 Championship season, scoring 10 goals and providing 15 assists for his teammates.
His main position is right winger, but he is used as a left winger as well. Speaking of his international career, Said Benrahma made his debut for the Algeria national team on October 13, 2015 in a 1-0 win over Senegal.
Highlighted Team (Uganda):
Uganda are an African football team that have yet to qualify for the FIFA World Cup finals. The Cranes struggle in the World Cup qualifiers, but they did well to make it to the Africa Cup of Nations finals in 1978.
Uganda outplayed Nigeria in the semi-finals of the tournament in Ghana, but the hosts proved to be a big catch for Peter Okee’s troops in the title game. You should bear in mind that the Uganda national football team made their first appearances at the African Cup of Nations back in 1962. The Cranes wear yellow shirts and black shorts when playing at home, while the colour of their away kit is white and black.
Uganda play their home games at Mandela National Stadium, the venue that was opened in 1997. The capacity of the stadium is 45,202. The likes of Almansi Kadogo, David Obua, Ibrahim Sekagya, Joel Kitamirike and Joseph Kizito are the most notable footballers who played for Uganda.
