Guinea
Cairo International Stadium will host Thursday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Egypt and Guinea. The Pharaohs failed to book their spot at the 2022 World Cup finals, and, no doubt, they have big ambitions for the upcoming AFCON qualifying campaign. As always, a man to keep an eye on in the home team will be Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah, who could play only one half following his participation in the Champions League final against Real Madrid.
Guinea, on the other hand, are on a four-game winless run in all competitions, which is probably the main reason why we are going to bet on Salah and Co. this time out. Egypt defenders should have Serhou Guirassy at bay as he enjoyed a very successful Ligue 1 campaign with Rennes. In the previous meetings between the two sides Egypt defeated Guinea 3-1.
Highlighted Player (Mohamed Salah):
Mohamed Salah is considered one of the best African players. Salah began his senior career at El Mokawloon, scoring 11 goals in 41 league appearances for the club and in 2012 he moved to Europe, signing a four-year deal with Swiss side Basel.
The pacey winger, who is capable of playing as a striker as well was producing outstanding displays for the RotBlau from 2012 to 2014 and, as a result, Chelsea chiefs decided to sign him on 26 January, 2015 for a fee of £11 million. Mohamed Salah, though, failed to impress in the Premier league and one year later he was sent on loan to Fiorentina.
After making 16 league appearances for the Viola in the Serie A, the left-footed winger signed a loan deal with Roma on 6 August, 2015. The Romans made the contract permanent on 3 August, 2016. Speaking of his international career, Salah made his Egypt debut on 3 September, 2011 in a 2-1 loss to Sierra Leone. It has to be noted that he was named Roma’s player of the season (2015/2016).

Nicknamed the National Elephants, Guinea national team are affiliated to the Guinea Football Federation. Guinea qualified for their 12th Africa Cup of Nations and they will face the likes of Nigeria, Madagascar and Burundi in the group stages of the tournament in Egypt.
The National Elephants have yet to win the Africa Cup of Nations, but they were on the verge of going all the way at the tournament in Ethiopia back in 1976. Guinea finished the final round in second place in the standings, only one point behind champions Morocco.
The National Elephants wear red socks, yellow shorts and green socks when welcoming their rivals, whilst their away colours are yellow and red. Guinea suffered a 2-1 loss to Togo in their first international game (May, 1962). The African side recorded their biggest win against Mauritania (14-0) on May, 1972), whilst a 6-0 loss to Zaire (July, 1972) is considered the biggest defeat in the history of the national team.
