Our prediction for this Africa Cup of Nations 2024 match:
Friday’s football game between Ivory Coast and Guinea Bissau will open the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations. The Elephants are eager to win the prestigious trophy in their homeland and they are seen as hot favourites to pick up all three points from the Group A opener. Galatasaray forward Wilfried Zaha has been left out of the squad, while both Sebastien Haller and Simon Adingra are struggling with injuries ahead of the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara clash.
Guinea Bissau, on the other hand, were producing fine displays in the AFCON qualifiers, but they will have a much bigger fish to fry against Ivory Coast, who are a real force to be reckoned with at home. A man to keep an eye on in the away team will be Lyon forward Mama Balde, but the 28-year-old is unlikely to help the underdogs grab something from the opener.
Highlighted Team (Guinea Bissau):
Guinea-Bissau are an African football team that is controlled by Federacao de Futebol de Guine-Bissau. The Djutrus have never participated in the World Cup finals, but they did well to qualify for the 2017 African Cup of Nations.
Guinea-Bissau impressed in their qualifying group, with the team finishing the process in top position, leaving the likes of Congo, Zambia and Kenya behind them in Group E. The team play their home games at Estadio 24 de Setembro and Estadio Lino Correia and the colour of their home kit is red. Guinea-Bissau play their away matches in green shirts and green shorts. The likes of Edson Ricardo Nunes Correia Silva, Gerso Fernandes, Lassana Camara, Almami Moreira, Bocundji Ca, Eridson, Luciano Teixeira and Esmael Goncalves are some of Guinea-Bissau’s most notable players.
The Djutrus recorded their biggest win against Benin (7-2) on 3 November, 2001, while they suffered their biggest loss against Mali (1-6) in 1997. Guinea-Bissau played under the name of Portuguese Guinea in the past.
