Our prediction for this Bundesliga match:
Following a shocking loss to Unterhaching in the DFB Pokal, Augsburg will look to make a fine start to their Bundesliga campaign when they face Borussia M’gladbach at WWK Arena. The Bavarians’ primary goal is the top flight survival and, no doubt, summer signings Sven Michel and Phillip Tietz are capable of helping the team improve offensively. As for the season opener, all Masaya Okugawa, Mads Pedersen, Renato Veiga, Raphael Framberger, and Robert Gumny miss out with injuries.
Die Fohlen, on the other hand, aim to make amends for the unsuccessful 2022/2023 Bundesliga campaign, but beating Augsburg at WWK Arena is easier said than done. Taking everything into account, we believe that both sides should be happy with one point from Saturday’s clash. A man to watch in the visiting team will be summer recruit Tomas Cvancara, who scored 12 goals for Sparta Prague in the Czech championship last term. The likes of Jonas Omlin, Christoph Kramer, and Manu Kone are injury for the away team.
Highlighted Player (Marvin Friedrich):
Marvin Friedrich is a product of FSC Guxhagen football school. The German footballer played for the likes of OSC Vellmar, Paderborn and Schalke during his youth career as well before making his senior debut with die Knappen.
Marvin Friedrich scored 4 goals in 30 appearances for Schalke B before he started playing for the senior team. The German defender made his Bundesliga debut on September 13, 2014 in a 4-1 loss to Borussia M’gladbach. Nowadays Friedrich plays for Union Berlin as he signed a permanent deal with the Bundesliga side on July 5, 2019. His main position is centre-back, but he is capable of producing fine performances as both left and right back as well.
Friedrich’s contract with Union Berlin expires on June 30, 2022. The versatile defender has yet to make his debut with the Germany senior team, but he has four caps with Germany U20 and three with Germany U19 respectively.
Highlighted Team (Augsburg):
Augsburg are a German football club founded in Augsburg, Bavaria back in 1907. Die Fuggerstadter play in German Bundesliga and with 12,200 members they are regarded as the largest football club in Bavaria. Augsburg wear white shirts and they host their rivals at WWK ARENA.
The capacity of the stadium is 30,660 and it has been the home of Augsburg since 2009. Augsburg won the Schwaben Cup 13 times and it has to be noted that they were promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time in 2011.
The club qualified for the Europa League 2015/2016 group stages and thanks to a 3-1 win over Partizan in Belgrade they booked their place in the last 32. However, Liverpool proved to be a big catch for the German outfit in the Europa League knockout stages.
Die Fuggerstadter’s main rivals are TSV 1860 Munich and there have always been fireworks when the two teams take on each other.
