Following a 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt, Freiburg will look to record their first win of 2023 when they take on Augsburg in the Bundesliga round 18. Christian Streich’s troops have a chance to climb to the Champions League berth, and they are likely to go all guns blazing at the Bavarians. Midfielder Roland Sallai has yet to recover from a muscle problem, but he should be the only absentee in the home team.
Meanwhile, Augsburg recorded a morale-boosting win over Borussia M’gladbach, with returnee Mergim Berisha scoring the only goal of the match. Enrio Maasen’s troops, though, are not regarded as good travellers, which is probably the main reason why we are going to bet on the home side. The visitors will be without the likes of Cardona, Vargas, Oxford, Iago, Hahn, and Strobl in Saturday’s clash.

Son to a football coach, Andreas, the Freiburg striker Nils Petersen is a physical forward best known for his clinical finishing. A former Bayern Munich striker never got a chance to prove his worth with Bundesliga giants and had to take a long road to prominence which included loan spells at Werder Bremen and Freiburg, before penning a permanent deal with Die Breisaguer in 2015.
Petersen’s impressive exploits during the 2017/18 season helped him get into Germany’s provisional FIFA World Cup 2018 squad although his father Andreas would argue it was his personal influence that helped Joachim Loew write his son’s name in the 23-man list. Namely, Andres Piteresen spotted the Germany manager on a beach in January and decided to ask him about his son’s chances of making it into Germany World Cup squad.
Piteresen was rewarded with his senior Germany cap in an Austria friendly but unfortunately for his father missed out on the final squad for the tournament in Russia.

Augsburg are a German football club founded in Augsburg, Bavaria back in 1907. Die Fuggerstadter play in German Bundesliga and with 12,200 members they are regarded as the largest football club in Bavaria. Augsburg wear white shirts and they host their rivals at WWK ARENA.
The capacity of the stadium is 30,660 and it has been the home of Augsburg since 2009. Augsburg won the Schwaben Cup 13 times and it has to be noted that they were promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time in 2011.
The club qualified for the Europa League 2015/2016 group stages and thanks to a 3-1 win over Partizan in Belgrade they booked their place in the last 32. However, Liverpool proved to be a big catch for the German outfit in the Europa League knockout stages.
Die Fuggerstadter’s main rivals are TSV 1860 Munich and there have always been fireworks when the two teams take on each other.
