Our prediction for this Championship match:
Sunday’s football game between Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City will bring down the curtain on day 9 of the new Championship campaign. The Riversiders aim to make amends for back-to-back losses to Sunderland (1-3) and Ipswich Town (3-4) and we are positive that they will fight tooth and nail against the Foxes. Ryan Hedges is a major doubt and he will be assessed ahead of the kick-off, while both Sam Gallagher and Niall Ennis remain in the recovery room.
Leicester, on the other hand, are eyeing their fourth consecutive league win and we predict that they will take advantage of Blackburn’s shaky defence. When the two teams met in the FA Cup last season Blackburn Rovers eliminated Leicester City, meaning that Jamie Vardy and Co. are hungry for revenge. Speaking of Vardy, the experienced striker should keep his place in the starting XI after scoring the winner against Bristol City. Thomas Cannon and Dennis Praet, though, miss out with injuries.
Highlighted Player (Jamie Vardy):
Spending his early career playing no-league football, Jamie Vardy made the headlines when he joined Leicester City in a £1 million deal in 2012, but little did he know that he would go on to become a genuine Premier League star just three years later.
The experienced forward helped the Foxes gain promotion to the elite division and then score more than 20 goals as they mounted an unlikely title bid, earning worldwide acclaim as well as a place in the England squad. Vardy went on to score his first two goals for the Three Lions in March 2016 friendlies, with his back-heel goal against Germany in Berlin seeing him instantly become a fans’ favourite.
Over the years, Vardy has earned a reputation as a striker who never gives up and can be a real menace for opposition defenders, but his excellent goalscoring record and good link-up play are enough to suggest he can be described as a mix of old-style pacey forwards and modern strikers.
Highlighted Team (Blackburn Rovers):
Blackburn Rovers have been trying to return to the Premier League ever since they dropped to the Championship in 2012. The Riversiders compete in the English second tier and they play their home games at Ewood Park. Blackburn were founded back in 1875 and they are one of the founding members of the Football League (1888).
Burnley are considered Blackburn’s main rivals and the two teams square off against each other in the East Lancashire derby. It has to be noted that Blackburn Burnley 7-1 in their first ever meeting in the East Lancashire Derby on 3 November, 1888. The Riversiders have won three First Division (Premier League) trophies (1911/1912, 1913/1914, 1994/1995).
Blackburn Rovers have clinched six FA Cup titles as well. Speaking of the club’s European success, the Riversiders won the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2007. The colour of Blackburn’s home kit is blue and white.
