Our prediction for this Championship match:
Out-of-sorts Wigan Athletic will be aiming to escape the relegation zone when they take on Coventry City on Tuesday evening. The Latics dropped a two-goal advantage in a 2-2 draw with Swansea City, but their displays in Saturday’s clash is certainly giving fans a reason for optimism ahead of upcoming challenges. Both Graeme Shinnie and Callum Lang are pushing for a start, while Joe Bennett is likely to replace Jason Kerr, who limped off with injury at the weekend.
The Sky Blues, on the other hand, have been showing signs of improvement of late, with the team beating both Blackburn and Watford in the previous two league fixtures. In their last meeting at the venue Coventry defeated Wigan 2-0, and we predict that the history is going to repeat itself. All Dabo, Godden, and Waghorn are injured for the home team, while both Bidwell and O’Hare are pushing for recalls.
Highlighted Player (Simon Moore):
Simon Moore is an English goalkeeper who plays for Sheffield United in the Championship. Moore began his career at Brading Town and, after playing 49 games in the league for the club, he moved to Farnborough in 2008. However, due to the lack of first-team football, Simon Moore left the club at the end of the season, with the 191-cm-tall shoot-stopper signing a contract with Brentford.
The English goalkeeper, who was born in Sandown on May 19, 1990, made his debut for the Bees in May, 2010 against Hartlepool United, coming as a substitute for first-choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. After ending his loan spell with Basingstoke Town in January 2011, he moved to Cardiff City and it has to be noted that he made 17 appearances for the Welsh outfit.
In the summer of 2016 he signed a deal with Sheffield United for a fee of around £500,000 and he did remarkably well to keep 17 clean sheets in the 2016/2017 League One campaign. The Blades finished the season in top position in the standings and, no doubt, Simon Moore’s brilliant saves helped the club secure promotion to the English second tier.
Highlighted Team (Wigan):
Wigan Athletic are one of the winners of the English FA Cup. The Latics won the prestigious trophy in 2013, with the team upsetting Manchester City in the title game. This is considered the club’s biggest success, but it has to be noted that Wigan played in the UEFA Europa League in the 2013/2014 season.
Wigan have been playing their home games at the DW Stadium since 1999 and they had played at Springfield Park in the past. Chorley are considered Wigan’s fierce rivals, but the two teams last met in 1971, when they competed in the Northern Premier League. The likes of Preston North End, Bury, Oldham Athletic, Burnley and Blackburn Rovers are regarded as Wigan Athletic’s rivals as well.
The club was founded in 1932 and they competed in the English Premier League from 2005 to 2013. The colour of Wigan’s home kit is blue and white (stripes).
