Our prediction for this Championship match:
MKM Stadium will host Tuesday’s Championship game between Hull City and Barnsley, the two relegation-threatened teams. The Tigers are safe for now, and a win over the rock-bottom side will see them move one step closer to securing the survival. All Lewie Coyle, Nathan Baxter, Josh Emmanuel, Andy Cannon, and Mallik Wilks remain in the recovery room, with goalkeeper Matt Ingram missing out as well. January signing Marcus Forss will be the man to watch in the home team.
The Tykes, on the other hand, have slim chances of avoiding the drop, with the team sitting in the ultimate positions, nine points behind the safe zone. Given their poor away record (0-4-12) in the 2021/2022 season, anything but a routine home win would be a major surprise. All Cauley Woodrow, Victor Adeboyejo, Clarke Oduor, Liam Kitching, and Aaron Leya Iseka are injured for the away side.
Highlighted Player (Callum Elder):
Callum Elder is an Australia international who plays for Hull City in the League One. Elder started his youth career at Manly United, but in 2011 he was spotted by Leicester City scouts. Despite being a Leicester City player from 2013 to 2019, he did not see any game action with the Foxes in the Premier League.
Callum Elder played for the likes of Mansfield Town, Peterborough United, Brentford, Barnsley, Wigan Athletic, and Ipswich Town before signing a three-year contract with the Tigers for an undisclosed fee. Speaking of his international career, the pacey left-back has one cap with the Australia U20 team.
Elder’s favourite position is left-back, but he is capable of producing fine displays as a centre-back as well. Elder wears the No. 3 jersey at Hull City, and he is an athletic full-back who likes getting up and down the left-hand side. The Australian player was born on January 27, 1995.
Highlighted Team (Barnsley):
Barnsley are an English club nicknamed the Tykes. The club was founded in 1887 and it has to be noted that they spend more seasons in the Championship than any other club in the history. The Tykes played in the Sheffield and District League from 1890, but in 1895 they were part of the Midland League. Barnsley play their home games at Oakwell, the stadium that was built in 1887.
The capacity of the stadium is 23,009 and it was opened back in 1888, just one year after the club’s foundation. The Tykes made it to the FA Cup final in 1910, but Newcastle United proved to be a big catch for the Oakwell outfit in the title game.
Nonetheless, Barnsley won the FA cup trophy in 1912 and that is considered the club’s biggest success. Barnsley defeated West Bromwich Albion in the two-legged tie (0-0, 1-0) to clinch the prestigious trophy for the first and only time in their history.
