Our prediction for this Championship match:
Following a heavy 3-0 defeat to Sunderland, Millwall will look to get back on course in the Championship when they face Wigan on Saturday afternoon. The Lions have a chances to climb to the playoffs berth, and we are positive that they will adopt an attack-minded approach against Wigan. There are no fresh injury worries in the home side, but forward Benik Afobe remains in the treatment room.
Meanwhile, the Latics aim to build on a 2-1 win over Blackpool, but given their poor winless run on the road, we are tempted to put our money on the capital club this time out. All Ben Amos, Tom Pearce, and Ryan Nyambe are sidelined with injuries, speaking of the away side. In their last meeting in the Championship, two years ago, Wigan defeated Millwall thanks to Shaun Hutchinson’s goal, meaning that the hosts are hungry for revenge.
Highlighted Player (Shaun Hutchinson):
Shaun Hutchinson is a professional footballer who plays for Milwall as a centre-back. Born in Newcastle upon Tyne (England) on November 23, 1990, he began his youth career at Wallsend Boys Club. In 2007 he moved to Motherwell and he made his first-team debut for the Scottish club on May 16, 2009 against Hamilton Academical.
After making 121 appearances in the league for Motherwell, Shaun Hutchinson returned to England in 2014, signing a deal with Championship club Fulham. Hutchinson played no more than 30 games for the Cottagers before joining fellow capital club Millwall on June 21, 2016.
He made his debut for the Lions against Peterborough United on August 16, 2016 and he has been playing for the club ever since. Shaun Hutchinson’s main position is centre-back, but he is capable of playing as a defensive midfielder as well. The Millwall defender has a contract with the club which expires on June 30, 2018 and it has to be noted that his preferred foot is left.
Highlighted Team (Wigan):
Wigan Athletic are one of the winners of the English FA Cup. The Latics won the prestigious trophy in 2013, with the team upsetting Manchester City in the title game. This is considered the club’s biggest success, but it has to be noted that Wigan played in the UEFA Europa League in the 2013/2014 season.
Wigan have been playing their home games at the DW Stadium since 1999 and they had played at Springfield Park in the past. Chorley are considered Wigan’s fierce rivals, but the two teams last met in 1971, when they competed in the Northern Premier League. The likes of Preston North End, Bury, Oldham Athletic, Burnley and Blackburn Rovers are regarded as Wigan Athletic’s rivals as well.
The club was founded in 1932 and they competed in the English Premier League from 2005 to 2013. The colour of Wigan’s home kit is blue and white (stripes).
