Our prediction for this Championship match:
There will be fireworks when Sunderland and Leicester City go head to head at the Stadium of Light on Matchday 36. The Black Cats are eager to put an end to their four-game losing run, but they will have a mountain to climb in Tuesday’s encounter. All Jack Clarke, Patrick Roberts, Aji Alese, Bradley Dack, Niall Huggins, Dennis Cirkin, and Corry Evans are sidelined with injuries for the home team.
The Foxes, on the other hand, aim to make amends for a shocking 2-1 loss to Queens Park Rangers. As both Leicester and Sunderland will go for a victory in the midweek clash, we are tempted to place our bets on both teams to score. Midfielder Wilfried Ndidi remains in the recovery room, while centre-back Jannik Vestergaard is back from suspension. In their last meeting at the venue, back in 2016 (Premier League), the Black Cats defeated the Foxes 2-1.
Highlighted Player (Jamie Vardy):
Spending his early career playing no-league football, Jamie Vardy made the headlines when he joined Leicester City in a £1 million deal in 2012, but little did he know that he would go on to become a genuine Premier League star just three years later.
The experienced forward helped the Foxes gain promotion to the elite division and then score more than 20 goals as they mounted an unlikely title bid, earning worldwide acclaim as well as a place in the England squad. Vardy went on to score his first two goals for the Three Lions in March 2016 friendlies, with his back-heel goal against Germany in Berlin seeing him instantly become a fans’ favourite.
Over the years, Vardy has earned a reputation as a striker who never gives up and can be a real menace for opposition defenders, but his excellent goalscoring record and good link-up play are enough to suggest he can be described as a mix of old-style pacey forwards and modern strikers.
Highlighted Team (Sunderland):
Sunderland are a professional football club that have been playing their home games at the Stadium of Light since 1997. The capacity of the stadium is 49,000, but before expansion the original ground capacity was 42,000. Red and White shirts are Sunderland’s trademark and the club’s fiercest rivals are Newcastle United. The two local rivals have been contesting in the Tyne-Wear derby since 1898 and there have always been fireworks in what is one of the greatest derbies in English football. Sunderland were on the verge of dropping to the Championship in the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign, but experienced tactician Sam Allardyce eventually helped the team avoid relegation.
The Black Cats have won six First Division trophies (now the Premier League), with the team lifting two FA Cup titles. Sunderland won their first FA Cup trophy in 1937, with the team beating Preston North End 3-1 in the title game. The club was founded in 1879 as Sunderland and District Teachers A.F.C.
